The decision has been made. LILITH Japan orders the Outsiders to mobilize to pursue the Imugi.
Given that they are in a foreign country, they are largely dependent on LILITH Korea’s resources. In response to the decision, the Korean branch provides some assistance: the Outsiders are given just enough vehicles to help transport them, essential supplies, and only a few operatives to help guide them. This is the most the Korean branch is able to give, as they must focus on relocating people and restoring peace following the attack.
LILITH announces that the Imugi is currently resting near Gangneung on the east coast and they must move quickly. The effects of Rift poisoning will grow stronger as they approach the source; a sign that they are close to a kaiju. Upon reaching the mountains just outside the city, LILITH informs them that they are right on top of its location.
However, there is no Imugi to be found. After searching the area, Outsiders will discover the source of the trace and the poisoning: eggs. They will find about twelve eggs. When they report their findings, Seokdang will curse. In their rush, they had followed the wrong trace. They didn’t track down an injured and resting Imugi—they tracked down the Imugi’s nest. So where is the Imugi?
Not long after, Outsiders will receive an update on their implants: the Imugi reappeared in Seoul. After seeing the corpse of its mate, it went berserk and attacked the city again. While many of the citizens were evacuated to nearby Incheon and remaining shelters, just as many perished, with the death toll at 168,000 and rising. LILITH’s Korean base is destroyed.
The Imugi was last seen flying north, but the Korean government prohibits the Outsiders from pursuing it again through their territory. By choosing to pursue the kaiju, the Outsiders have abandoned humanity and thus will receive no further support. They are ordered to leave the country immediately.
LILITH Japan will order them to collect as many eggs as possible and continue to the abandoned city of Gangneung, where they will arrange pick up and return to base in Tokyo.
▶ AFTERWORD.
Thanks everyone for participating in our first major Event Decision! We hope you had fun discussing what to do both ICly and OOCly.
After failing to capture the second Imugi and also failing to save a large portion of Seoul's population, characters will be shipped back to Japan. The events of the TDM will springboard from there. Feel free to use this post to thread out any aftermath threads if you would like.
All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards August AC.
[Luckily for them both, Raidou has quite the sweet tooth. Everything in the bag is something he likes, but they'll have to wait until he gets his appetite back.
He nods at Dearka's explanation, relieved as well to hear that. Sounds about right for Yzak. It's been beyond difficult lately, but knowing there is someone he was able to heal, and taking the worry off of someone who cares about them - to a degree at least, in this case - it does mean something.]
Mm. I've been on the receiving end of talks like that too. I'm sure you were just doing what you thought was right. What needed to be done.
[He wouldn't begrudge anyone for jumping in the way of danger to save a friend, a teammate. It's what he was raised to do. No matter how many lectures he gets, he can't turn that part of himself off.]
[He has... Complicated thoughts about his own motivations and what really drove him to act in that moment, actually. But he's not about to dump his thoughts about all that onto poor Raidou.]
I don't see it as recklessness. Just doing your duty.
[Which might precisely be his problem, but it is a matter of perspective, isn't it.
He's not sure what else to say. Raidou isn't a great conversationalist on a good day, which certainly isn't today, and won't be anytime soon. He should be hospitable, though. After a moment of hesitation, he opens the door enough for them both.]
Would you like to sit down? I can make some coffee to go with these. [Indicating the bag of snacks. Raidou might not have much of an appetite, but he always has time for coffee.]
[Oh good, this saves him the trouble of immediately and awkwardly trying to work up to his next question, which was going to be “how are YOU doing?” Because the more Dearka looks at Raidou and his paler-than-usual complexion, the more low-key concerned he’s growing.]
Oh, sure… Long as you don’t mind. I wouldn’t wanna overstay my welcome.
[He says that, but he’s also already walking in through the open door.]
Just coffee for me though. Kinda feels wrong to eat some of the same thank-you gift I just handed off.
[Raidou's room is surprisingly cozy. You'd think a guy like this would have a rather spartan living space, and it was, for awhile. Now, there are two comfy chairs with a small table between them - meant for having visitors over coffee. That's where he sets down the bag of snacks, and gestures for Dearka to have a seat. Raidou moves to the wall cabinet next to his desk, where he has his mugs, percolator, press, and precious coffee. It's not always easy to find in this world.
He closes and slides his school work to the side to work with his coffee accoutrements. above the desk hangs a string of Polaroid photos, entwined with little fairy lights. The photos are almost exclusively Yuji, or Raidou with Yuji, who's definitely the one who had the idea for a decoration. Raidou's idea of decoration is the nearby heirloom sword on display on a rack, perfectly polished and preserved. There's also a big, round, tiger plush at the end of the bed - guess who's idea that was, too.]
Please do help yourself. I know you brought them, but things like that taste better when you share them.
[With his back to Dearka, there's the faintest hint of a smile in his voice.]
[Dearka isn't at all shy about glancing around the room, taking all the details in full. It's always an interesting experience to see someone else's quarters, since you can learn a lot from how they choose to maintain them... Dearka's main takeaway from the various unique features of Raidou's quarters is a renewed understanding that this guy is definitely several years younger than he is... Not that it makes him respect him any less, or anything.]
You make a good point... One I can't disagree with, really.
[He saunters over to one of the chairs, taking a seat for himself. He watches Raidou with his various coffee equipment from there.]
Heh... I know a guy back home who's absolutely nuts for coffee... Has all kinds of equipment like that, and he's always messing with different blends and stuff.
[Surprise surprise, Raidou is still a teenager. The guy who never really got to be a kid is enjoying just a little bit of it here in Neo Tokyo. He's earned it.]
I would make it for clients at the shop. My cover for summoner work was as a junior detective and housekeeper.
[The latter being a pretty typical arrangement in his time for high school and university students. A good cover.]
I think I started preferring it to tea. But it's hard to find here. Expensive. Took awhile to even find all this.
[But worth it. Tea is good, but he likes coffee more. And thanks to Lucy, he's now got a French press. His friends are so nice.
Once it sets to percolating, Raidou has the seat opposite of him. He looks through the bag of snacks, noticing the branding on the packaging from the cat cafe.]
Ah. I haven't been there in awhile. I like that place. It's relaxing.
[Dearka's got no real strong opinions on tea OR coffee tbh, but he's always down to hear more about the lives of his fellow Outsiders. And as for the cafe...]
Oh, you've been?
[He grins.]
Yzak actually works there part time, heh. Honestly, I thought for sure he would've quit by now, because he was really putting up a stink about it at first... Kept saying he wanted to get a job that was more "useful" for the mission. Not sure what changed exactly, but he hasn't made that particular complaint in a while.
[What actually changed is that Yzak apparently took Raidou's words to heart.]
I have. Though not in awhile. Not since Yzak started working there. I should go sometime.
[Raidou would never suspect himself of being able to influence anyone with his words. Articulating himself for long periods is always a struggle. Part of him suspects that due to his quiet demeanor and general unobtrusiveness, combined with his poor speaking ability, that most people don't fully listen to him. That's alright, he gets it. He's a man of action, not words.
There's a faint smile from him.]
I'm glad to hear that. Having a civilian job you enjoy is important. On base, we can talk training. Missions. The lives of Outsiders. Out there, we have the lives of people just like them.
[He hums agreeably. He personally hasn't really embraced the benefits of getting out there and getting to know the locals, but he's happy Yzak seems more content now.]
Yeah, there's something to be said for maintaining a little scrap of normalcy I guess, huh?
