KAIJU FIGHT #1

KAIJU FIGHT #1

CONTENT WARNINGS: thalassophobia, natural disaster, drowning, body horror, violence, blood & gore.

โ–ถ 001. SEAS THE DAY.

On the morning of the 1st, sirens will blare, forcing every Outsider and Neo Tokyo civilian awake. While it hasn't been activated for a while, every citizen within the city knows this alarm all too well - it wails through the city whenever a Kaiju has been detected, ordering everyone to return to their homes immediately and stay there until they receive further information. Outsiders gazing at Neo Tokyo will see the armored city in its full technological splendour for the first time today. Once the civilians have returned to their homes, machinery within the buildings will work like clockwork, sinking each and every LILITH-augmented building beneath the ground. Just in time, too, because the waves are starting to roar again, crashing beyond the shore and flooding the city once more. Observant Outsiders may note that not every building has been modified. The older ones remain standing, vulnerable to the impending flood. Does anyone live in those buildings? The answer is yes, but that's not a priority at the moment.

Every Outsider will receive a summon, ordering them to prepare for battle. The Kaiju has been identified and located. It's show time.

"Angels of LILITH. We have located the Kaiju coming from beyond the sea. A full mission brief including the information we have gathered will be sent to you immediately. For now, make your way to the bay where your transport will be waiting. Be prepared for anything, but mostly, be prepared to swim."

Waiting for the Outsiders at the bay appear to be ... expensive-looking, personal yachts? This has to be a mistake, right? It's no mistake. Through intel LILITH has exchanged with international companies, it appears that this particular Kaiju has a fondness for overturning civilian yachts, and there's no better way to attract it than to leave it its favourite bait. The goal is to attract these Kaiju towards the boats and then attacking.

The ships may look like they're outfitted for a fancy yacht party. In fact, some exploring down below deck in the lounging room, one may find caviar on fancy ritz, oyster tower, little finger sandwiches with the crusts cut off and bougie smelly cheese that nobody in LILITH's pay grade can identify. On another table, there is fancy ramen spoons filled with microgreens, crystal jelly vinegarette, and a thin slice of parmesan cheese. Some further looking may find some fine aged wine, but you're not here to drink and party, you're here to fight a Kaiju! Right? Right.

Despite the fact everything about these yachts just look like... fancy yachts... they are actual warships that are mounted with naval artillery such as swivel guns, missiles and torpedos. Spears, harpoon guns and fishing nets can also be found and used if an Outsider is more comfortable getting extremely close to the monsters. There's no time for a proper seafaring course, so Outsiders will be given a quick run down on how the controls work, and be sent on their way. They will also be given a special jewel-like implant that attaches to the skin, right along the forehead, and told to wear it if they need to go into the water. "Don't worry about it," the LILITH crew says. "But it'll be one hell of a ride if you use it."

Alongside the crew, Seok Dang seems to be also assisting (?) though he's gotten a hold of the reception food down below. Did he smell like fine wine? Possibly. But that's definitely a fancy, half eaten cracker in his hand. He's also got on a bright, neon life preserver. Maybe someone doesn't know how to swim.

"WHOOO HELLA YEAH, MOTHERFUCKERS. Don't know how to swim? Don't'cha worry. Daddy Dang has got you covered. I know CPR! I give the best CPR! ๐Ÿ’– I'll rescue ya. TONIGHT, WE BALL!"

Nobody uses that phrase anymore, but you know what? You do you, SD.

โ–ถ 002. WHALE WATCHING.

Minutes into their ship's course, the boats will rock violently, as if those already violent waves have somehow come alive. There is something in the water! The mission brief would have been shared with them sometime during their trip, but maybe Outsiders want to pull up on their implant the image and debrief shared once again now that there is some action. The orca-like Kaiju trying to reach the shores of Neo Tokyo is called Shachimon, and she's been the cause of the violent waves and flooding we've seen for the past few weeks. Alongside of her and are her children orca who love to mimic everything their mother does. The biggest one, the matriarch of the pod, is over 60 meters in length - large enough to swallow a boat whole. The younger ones are smaller but just as ferocious, spanning from the size of a car to the size of a bus. The youngsters are a size small enough that they can leap out of the water, sometimes crashing down onto people and ships. Beware!

Shachimon will be fighting to knock over boats, or climbing on boats with their amphibious legs. Once they get their hands on humans or Outsiders, they pull them into the water, tearing them limb from limb to feed. Their control over the waves are no joke, either. With a powerful swing of their tail, they can conjure up tsunamis capable of overturning ships. The matriarch, if left to her own devices, seems bent on submerging Neo Tokyo to make food of all its citizens.

โ–ˆ โ–ˆ โ–ˆ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: Shachimon
HEIGHT: Younger whales are 4 - 18 metres. The matriarch is 60 meters in length.
WEIGHT: 1500kg - 5000kg
CLASS: Highly dangerous.
LOCATION: Large bodies of water
ABILITIES: Use of sonar to detect any water movement. Fast swimmer. Very sturdy body thanks to all that whale blubber. High intelligence - commonly works together as a pod to take down prey. Capable of creating tsunamis that overturn boats. The largest Shachimon can sink a city if not stopped.
WEAKNESS: Electricity (since it will be inside water), dissection, spearing its eyes or blowhole. Loud vibrations within the water can stun or confuse it.
EXTRA NOTES: Dislikes and will attempt to overturn civilian yachts. Carnivorous, eating marine life and human flesh. Sadistic personality, may play with their food prior to eating.

โ–ˆ โ–ˆ โ–ˆ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
โœ– Lead the Shachimon away from the shore.
โœ– Extermination of Shachimon in the water and if they reach the shore.
โœ– Protection of nearby fishermen's boats and civilians within those boats.
โœ– Teamwork to destroy the matriach Shachimon.
โœ– Bring back specimens (live or deceased) for research purposes.

โ–ˆ โ–ˆ โ–ˆ ATTACHED PHOTO:

As a note, Outsiders who wish to remain on land and help civilians there may do so. There are waves flooding the city, and some of the smaller, quicker Shachimon will have made it to shore. They will need to be taken care of before they can terrorise the city.

โ–ถ 003. OCEAN GEMS.

Shachimon are most deadly in the water and their go-to strategy is to pull others into their turf, where they have the advantage. That's where those jewel-like implants come in. These implants, called OCEAN GEMS, when attached to the skin, temporarily modify the body. Once activated, nanobots will invade the bloodstream and alter the user's lungs, giving them a set of breathable gills. Their legs will also be altered, giving them fins and the tail of a fish. This is a recent invention by LILITH ever since the first Shachimon was spotted a few years ago, and the technology is still experimental. This means that the transformation process will be significantly uncomfortable, feeling a bit like being asphyxiated and having your legs sewn together at the same time. Deactivating the gem and turning back feels just as uncomfortable, and being experimental technology, it can take a while before the user can successfully revert back. Those who want to fight in the water and lack any weapons or abilities that can be used can request Seok Dang for a weapon. There's a limited supply, but they will be given a special trident. Directly driving the spear into one of the kaiju will electrocute it, giving a higher chance for higher damage. These tridents will be handed out to those who want to use their Ocean Gem and ask.

It's up to Outsiders whether they want to use this new technology or not. Being able to fight the monsters on their own terrain is certainly an advantage, so LILITH would highly encourage it.

โ–ถ 004. MEDICAL BAY.

Healers and those with medical experience will be placed on the warship with a red flag on it. Dr. Spim & Alex will also be present on this ship to assist any major injuries to both LILITH and civilian fisherman alike. This ship is bigger than the others, and while stocked up with the same artillery, it is also stocked with beds and medical supplies. This will be the Outsider's naval medical bay during the siege on the Shachimon and all injured Outsiders or civilians will need to be transported there. This ship will also need to be protected heavily, because once the Shachimon catch on that all the injured, vulnerable prey are being transported to the larger ship, they will start to target that ship in particular. Characters that need immediate medical help should be transported to this ship via a dataportal. Each yacht has a dataportal that can teleport anyone instantly to the medical ship. The dataportals are also located down below deck to prevent them from getting damaged.

โ–ถ 005. THE CALM AFTER THE STORM.

It's a bloody, soggy and gruesome battle and the seas' waves begin to calm down, the sea filled with kaiju carcasses. LILITH's clean up crew is working hastily to collect these corpses, but with the Outsiders' occupied and recovering from their fresh battle, help is limited. Search and rescue scavenges the sea to find any civilians who didn't make it or may need medical help. Meanwhile, the valiant teamwork and effort has paid off. After many hits from many different weapons, artillery, natural abilities, etc. the matriarch kaiju has been downed and sank to the bottom of the ocean floor. LILITH's team will work to retrieve the massive carcass, though it will take awhile. Those who put in notable effort will receive praise and a little extra payout. Outsiders will see an instant transfer of funds to their account: 340,000,000 KRYPTOS. This is roughly about 2500 USD.

The intense battle will have lasted several days and Outsiders are free to go from land to sea as little or as often as they like. It is all over, though, and Outsiders will be called to return to the MAIN BASE for rest and recovery. LILITH will also be searching for the rift where the kaiju came from while Outsiders recover. A message from an unknown voice will pop up an hour or so after all Outsiders have returned to the MAIN BASE. Outsiders may use this time to socialize in a commons area, wash up in the showers, get a meal in the cafeteria or rest.

"Good work."

โ–ถ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our first Kaiju log! All prompts are highly encouraged but OOCly optional. ICly, characters can choose to fight in the ocean, on the ships or stay behind on land and protect the city. At the end of the siege, characters who accepted an Ocean Gem will be asked to return it. It's experimental technology, so LILITH will need to do more tweaking before they can properly release it. Outsiders who use the gem may have whatever fish tail they like, as long as it is a sea creature.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the Shachimon matriarch will be determined via a HP-based system (See below).

Please note that all tags in this log count for 2 reward points each. Ask any further questions below!

Below is also the month at a glance. We understand the CALENDAR has been a little inconsistent, but the mod team is sorting all of this out. [ Ren makes quick work of the smaller orcas that manage to make their way onto the boat. His blade is sharp and swift, digging into the flesh of the creature when it is within striking distance. Its cries are ignored by the swordsman, and when many more follow up to avenge their fallen ally, they're taken care of just as quickly and without much fanfare.

He's always been good at that, killing things before they become a problem. Even more so when someone is counting on him to get the job done.

Once the last monster falls, he turns to Kafka. His expression remains neutral as always. ]

That was the last of them. Was there anything else?

[ He doubts she's having trouble handling her batch of creatures, butโ€ฆ ]

( it's her preferred type of 'clean up' mission anyway.

the last of his pack drops before hers with a heavy thud, meanwhile she's taking all the time she needs with hers with a raised hand to heed him to stay for a moment rather than taking the kill from her. it would be easier to let him, but she has something else in mind for this one.

her cuts are careful, avoiding viscera as much as she can while starting its exsanguination with a cut where she estimates a major artery would be. it's a slow and cruel death, but it'd make for a better sample this way.

by the time it finally falls, she flicks her wrist to rid her blade of its blood, and turns to ren with a small smile.
)

We'll be carrying that one back.

( 'we'. )

Toss the rest overboard and I'll steer us back. Come meet me when you're done.

[ If only he could feel pity for such a creature. Monsters don't deserve such kindness.

He watches as Kafka takes down her prey with both precision and efficiency, red eyes following the collapse of the beast to the floor. His gaze lingers for just a few seconds longer before he meets her smile with a neutral expression. ]

Sure.

[ It's the only acknowledgement he gives her before lugging the other corpses overboard, letting the water swallow its dead children back home. There are a few more he has to toss over before he makes her way back to her side. ]

Are they paying extra to bring it back?

[ since it's the strugglebus all up in here

The Shachimon are relentless as they make their way to the shore. They were already a force to deal with in the waters, but it seems that still holds true even though they're now on land. There are Outsiders still dealing with them in the water, but Ren remains right here to cover the civilians still trying to get away.

The problem is— that there are more and more Shachimon coming out of the water, chasing after helpless people who can't fight back. Ren tries to deal with them as best he could, but every time he takes one down, there are two that take its place, slowly surrounding him from all directions.

But rather than back down, he keeps going. Nevermind that a few manage to claw at him, bite his leg, nibble on his shoulder... ]

[personal profile] frostfist 2024-02-07 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ With all that meat on him, is it any wonder the Shachimon are flocking to him?

Just kidding, but yeah, this whole thing is kind of a pain. Not that Wriothesley expected anything less after the grueling simulations Seok Dang had put them through, but it's even more apparent when faced with the onslaught in reality.

His focus narrows the longer he fights, his mind automatically dividing everything in his field of vision into two categories: things that need to be destroyed, and things that need to be saved. The Shachimon fall into the former, and Ren, streaked with blood and seawater, falls into the latter.

It's difficult forcing his way through the pile even with copious use of both ice and his upgraded gauntlets, and Wriothlesy honestly looks little better as he slowly battles his way over, a grim frown on his face. ]

Tough, huh?

[ He's talking about the kaiju, though it wouldn't be wrong to assume he's talking about Ren still upright and holding strong despite the chunks that have been taken out of him. ]
sparse: (pic#16788134)

[personal profile] sparse 2024-02-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ the shachimon are into big chests, so...

Ren would argue that he doesn't need saving, but when a blast of cryo cuts into the beasts in front of him, even someone like him would feel relieved to watch the monsters drop dead. He spares Wriothesley a glance, running his fingers down the blade of his sword again to imbue it with energy. The shachimon won't allow them a moment of reprieve, not for one bit. ]

They'll all die, one way or another.

[ And there he goes, slicing and dicing through the ones gathered near him before they can tear off more of his flesh. His blood seems to send them into a frenzy, making them all the more desperate to kill them both.

But Ren makes sure to watch Wriothesley's back, until we both decide we no longer want to write fight threads— ]

[ so in like four tags, got it

In the meantime, they can look sexy together being drenched in blood and having bits and chunks taken out of them. Truly the ideal state for any man to be in.

But—thanks for assist, even if Wriothesley can't help but lift an eyebrow at that flat pronouncement. ]

Just like those three people you keep talking about? [ Was that even the right saying? Ah, whatever. ] Though if this keeps up, we might be the ones dying.

[ Not that he's planning on it, a low grunt escaping through his lips as he blasts another kaiju back into the water, but he's not a fool. He's well aware of the risks of being out here, especially as another kaiju dives and lands a little too close to them. ]

Unless you have some trick tucked up your sleeve?

[ Time to wow the crowd with some showy swordwork, maybe?? ]
sparse: (pic#16788130)

[personal profile] sparse 2024-02-14 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ fine by me

Truth be told, he'd been holding back. While the shachimon are formidable foes, he hasn't felt the need to go all out while he was by himself, but now that Wriothesley is here, he needs to rethink his strategy. LILITH won't like it if they find out he let someone else get beat up just because he was slacking. Whoops.

But without wasting any more time, he brings his sword close to him, held straight in front as eerie red energy begins to flicker all around it. It only takes a split-second. He leaps into the air, and then the gathered energy is dispersed in a bloom of spider lilies, cutting through the shachimon like blades of grass.

Most of them are caught in the cross-fire, leaving only a few for both Wriothesley and him to pick off much more easily.

He spares Wriothesley one glance, as if saying: See? They're all dead now, big W. ]
frostfist: (pic#16873224)

[personal profile] frostfist 2024-02-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ NOT THE BIG W

But wow, alright, that certainly was an impressive maneuver right there. Why is he surrounded by show-offs? (Like he didn't specifically ask for this demonstration, even indirectly.) There's a resigned grimace on his face as he takes in the result of Blade's destruction, a tired sigh rattling around in his chest. He really is outclassed by so many people here, isn't he? ]

I see I'm not needed here.

[ He's kidding, mostly, though there is a hint of self-deprecation threaded between the words. But there's no time to complain when a dozen new Shachimon are already taking the place of their fallen comrades. Man, he's tired of this.

He shakes out his gauntlets, a mist of cold air clouding around them. ]

How many times can you do that anyway?
sparse: (pic#16605874)

[personal profile] sparse 2024-02-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Even if Wriothesley thinks he isn't needed, Blade's own limits have a different opinion of that entirely. Using this particular skill of his always comes with a price, made all the more obvious when new blood trickles out of his mouth that he has to wipe away. He barely takes note of it. He's used to this, after all.

He readies his sword again, preparing the same maneuver once more. ]

... Until I die.

[ Clearly, doing it again is just going to do more damage to him, so he tosses Wriothesley a curious glance. ]

Do you have tricks up your sleeve?

[ Maybe the Duke should show off a little!! ]
frostfist: (pic#16873249)

[personal profile] frostfist 2024-02-15 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Why is everyone here so obsessed with DEATH? Can they all just chill a little, maybe go take a break and have a (looks at network mingle post) pizza party or something?

He is not thinking this though, because thinking about anything that isn't battle right now is a one-way ticket to death. Which may be what Blade wants but sure isn't what Wriothesley wants right now. ]

I'll keep that in mind. [ Dryly. ] And I do, but they're not nearly as impressive as yours.

[ There's being confident and then there's being cocky, and he's never really liked slotting into the latter outside of the occasional joke. Maybe if he hadn't tucked away his Vision for so many years he'd be a bit more well-versed in flashy tricks, but as it is, the things he can do have always been good enough.

The Shachimon come and he cracks his neck a little, taking in a deep breath before his fists fly into motion, bursts of ice firing one after another at the bodies hurtling their way. It's not particularly flashy or neat but the ice does its job, momentarily freezing them all in place for a handful of seconds. He glances over at Blade, tipping his head towards them. ]

Mind lending a hand?

[ Does Blade wanna help a homie out and cut their heads off too? ]
sparse: (pic#16788131)

[personal profile] sparse 2024-02-18 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ If only a pizza party was enough to fix this man, but alas. They have other things to worry about.

Such as finishing up what Wriothesley set up for him. Blade takes a split-second to consider refuting what the other man just said. Not fancy, huh, despite how precise his attacks have been. Perhaps there's no drama, but it gets the job a lot better than the reckless way that Blade tends to go with.

(Plus, who wouldn't swoon at that lil' tilt of his head? Blade doesn't, only because he sucks—) ]

I got it.

[ Blade charges straight at the frozen beasts, slicing their heads off neatly even though they crack apart like broken ice. He brings his sword down on any stragglers with ease, and the shachimon's numbers begin to dwindle until they're much more manageable now. Some are even stepping back, running away with their tails tucked between their legs.

All that's left is clean up now. ]

[personal profile] sparse 2024-02-12 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ To think that they finally have their first chance to fight against kaiju, but the waiting game just might be the hardest part of it. Blade lingers in the lounging room of the more expensive yachts in the fleet, feeling all out of place. He wonders how much of this is meant to bait versus an actual excuse to spend the majority of LILITH's budget, but hey.

Free food is free food.

He's picked up a tray of small snacks for himself, not all that hungry and yet he has nothing else better to do anyway. While they wait for the kaiju to come to them, he might as well... try to take advantage of this. Keyword: try.

Because as soon as Kiritsugu passes by him, he's attempting to hand off his plate of food. ]

[ another precise stab at its eyes, and the shachimon falls with a cry before dan heng as he digs out cloud-piercer from its body, a quiet settling in as he tries to catch his breath.

the wave of kaiju, seemingly endless, halts for the time being-- and with that lull in battle, dan heng takes a moment to survey his surroundings, looking for allies and survivors to assist. it doesn't take long for him to spot a lone (familiar) figure floating in the water, and as he moves to fish the body out of the water, his suspicions are confirmed.

fortune is never kind to them both, and their fates have been intertwined once again. ]

Ren. [ dan heng has seen ren die before, has been the very reason for his death before even, and while he knows that ren will inevitably revive-- the rules of this place are still vastly unknown. and so his hands push against ren's chest (one, two, one, two) in clumsy, successive motions that he's read about in a book.

while he's not unfamiliar with rescue, dan heng is no medicโ€” so he does the only other thing heโ€™s read about and presses his lips against renโ€™s. ]

[ Death always finds a way to elude him, no matter what he does.

The shachimon shouldn't have caused him any problems. Not normally, at least. But after hours of reckless fighting, it's not surprising that they finally manage to catch him off-guard. They overwhelm him from behind, and before he realizes what happened, everything goes black, leaving him free-falling straight into the darkness' embrace. It's only shortly after that Dan Heng finds him, but by then, he's already unresponsive.

Near death, but not quite close enough.

Their lips touch— but it's not the rush of air or the awkwardness of the situation that brings him back. It's the warmth, and the sense of dread that comes along with it. He chokes out the water that has filled his lungs, beastly eyes jolting open to see who it is that saved him.

He pushes Dan Heng away, a tight grip around his shoulder. ]

[ the tight grip on his shoulder isn't new, nor is the rough treatment from the man who has chased him around the cosmos. the question has vague illogical reasoning behind its matching answer: ] Saving you, [ dan heng answers, hesitant, because he knows well what that means for ren.

the follow up is his saving grace, and he shakes his head. ]
It is not yet time.

[ for ren to pay his debt, for them to pay for what they have done. elio still has plans, for the both of them. this is neither the time nor the place, and dan heng had made a promise.

he doesn't move away or dare remove the hand on his shoulder. the pain is bothersome, but he has gone through worse. if ren wants to vent out his frustration of avoiding death yet another time on him, then so be it. this is just one more responsibility dan heng is willing to shoulder. ]

[ It is not yet time.

What an awful thing to say to someone who has waited long enough.

Ren purses his lips in response, a thin line that barely hides the disappointment and regret that flickers through the rest of his features. He has a million things he could say. A thousand more emotions he could convey. But in the end, he chooses none of them, pushing Dan Heng aside so he can struggle to pull himself upright. ]

... I'm alive.

[ Maybe a little bit worse for wear, but he's breathing. That'll have to be enough.

He glances at their surroundings, keeping an eye out for any stray shachimon. ]

Have they all been taken care of?

[ Knowing Dan Heng, he wouldn't be surprised if this is the case. ]
