▶ 001. SEAS THE DAY.

On the morning of the 1st, sirens will blare, forcing every Outsider and Neo Tokyo civilian awake. While it hasn't been activated for a while, every citizen within the city knows this alarm all too well - it wails through the city whenever a Kaiju has been detected, ordering everyone to return to their homes immediately and stay there until they receive further information. Outsiders gazing at Neo Tokyo will see the armored city in its full technological splendour for the first time today. Once the civilians have returned to their homes, machinery within the buildings will work like clockwork, sinking each and every LILITH-augmented building beneath the ground. Just in time, too, because the waves are starting to roar again, crashing beyond the shore and flooding the city once more. Observant Outsiders may note that not every building has been modified. The older ones remain standing, vulnerable to the impending flood. Does anyone live in those buildings? The answer is yes, but that's not a priority at the moment.

Every Outsider will receive a summon, ordering them to prepare for battle. The Kaiju has been identified and located. It's show time.

"Angels of LILITH. We have located the Kaiju coming from beyond the sea. A full mission brief including the information we have gathered will be sent to you immediately. For now, make your way to the bay where your transport will be waiting. Be prepared for anything, but mostly, be prepared to swim."

Waiting for the Outsiders at the bay appear to be ... expensive-looking, personal yachts? This has to be a mistake, right? It's no mistake. Through intel LILITH has exchanged with international companies, it appears that this particular Kaiju has a fondness for overturning civilian yachts, and there's no better way to attract it than to leave it its favourite bait. The goal is to attract these Kaiju towards the boats and then attacking.

The ships may look like they're outfitted for a fancy yacht party. In fact, some exploring down below deck in the lounging room, one may find caviar on fancy ritz, oyster tower, little finger sandwiches with the crusts cut off and bougie smelly cheese that nobody in LILITH's pay grade can identify. On another table, there is fancy ramen spoons filled with microgreens, crystal jelly vinegarette, and a thin slice of parmesan cheese. Some further looking may find some fine aged wine, but you're not here to drink and party, you're here to fight a Kaiju! Right? Right.

Despite the fact everything about these yachts just look like... fancy yachts... they are actual warships that are mounted with naval artillery such as swivel guns, missiles and torpedos. Spears, harpoon guns and fishing nets can also be found and used if an Outsider is more comfortable getting extremely close to the monsters. There's no time for a proper seafaring course, so Outsiders will be given a quick run down on how the controls work, and be sent on their way. They will also be given a special jewel-like implant that attaches to the skin, right along the forehead, and told to wear it if they need to go into the water. "Don't worry about it," the LILITH crew says. "But it'll be one hell of a ride if you use it."

Alongside the crew, Seok Dang seems to be also assisting (?) though he's gotten a hold of the reception food down below. Did he smell like fine wine? Possibly. But that's definitely a fancy, half eaten cracker in his hand. He's also got on a bright, neon life preserver. Maybe someone doesn't know how to swim.

"WHOOO HELLA YEAH, MOTHERFUCKERS. Don't know how to swim? Don't'cha worry. Daddy Dang has got you covered. I know CPR! I give the best CPR! 💖 I'll rescue ya. TONIGHT, WE BALL!"

Nobody uses that phrase anymore, but you know what? You do you, SD.

▶ 002. WHALE WATCHING.

Minutes into their ship's course, the boats will rock violently, as if those already violent waves have somehow come alive. There is something in the water! The mission brief would have been shared with them sometime during their trip, but maybe Outsiders want to pull up on their implant the image and debrief shared once again now that there is some action. The orca-like Kaiju trying to reach the shores of Neo Tokyo is called Shachimon, and she's been the cause of the violent waves and flooding we've seen for the past few weeks. Alongside of her and are her children orca who love to mimic everything their mother does. The biggest one, the matriarch of the pod, is over 60 meters in length - large enough to swallow a boat whole. The younger ones are smaller but just as ferocious, spanning from the size of a car to the size of a bus. The youngsters are a size small enough that they can leap out of the water, sometimes crashing down onto people and ships. Beware!

Shachimon will be fighting to knock over boats, or climbing on boats with their amphibious legs. Once they get their hands on humans or Outsiders, they pull them into the water, tearing them limb from limb to feed. Their control over the waves are no joke, either. With a powerful swing of their tail, they can conjure up tsunamis capable of overturning ships. The matriarch, if left to her own devices, seems bent on submerging Neo Tokyo to make food of all its citizens.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: Shachimon
HEIGHT: Younger whales are 4 - 18 metres. The matriarch is 60 meters in length.
WEIGHT: 1500kg - 5000kg
CLASS: Highly dangerous.
LOCATION: Large bodies of water
ABILITIES: Use of sonar to detect any water movement. Fast swimmer. Very sturdy body thanks to all that whale blubber. High intelligence - commonly works together as a pod to take down prey. Capable of creating tsunamis that overturn boats. The largest Shachimon can sink a city if not stopped.
WEAKNESS: Electricity (since it will be inside water), dissection, spearing its eyes or blowhole. Loud vibrations within the water can stun or confuse it.
EXTRA NOTES: Dislikes and will attempt to overturn civilian yachts. Carnivorous, eating marine life and human flesh. Sadistic personality, may play with their food prior to eating.

█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
✖ Lead the Shachimon away from the shore.
✖ Extermination of Shachimon in the water and if they reach the shore.
✖ Protection of nearby fishermen's boats and civilians within those boats.
✖ Teamwork to destroy the matriach Shachimon.
✖ Bring back specimens (live or deceased) for research purposes.

As a note, Outsiders who wish to remain on land and help civilians there may do so. There are waves flooding the city, and some of the smaller, quicker Shachimon will have made it to shore. They will need to be taken care of before they can terrorise the city.

▶ 003. OCEAN GEMS.

Shachimon are most deadly in the water and their go-to strategy is to pull others into their turf, where they have the advantage. That's where those jewel-like implants come in. These implants, called OCEAN GEMS, when attached to the skin, temporarily modify the body. Once activated, nanobots will invade the bloodstream and alter the user's lungs, giving them a set of breathable gills. Their legs will also be altered, giving them fins and the tail of a fish. This is a recent invention by LILITH ever since the first Shachimon was spotted a few years ago, and the technology is still experimental. This means that the transformation process will be significantly uncomfortable, feeling a bit like being asphyxiated and having your legs sewn together at the same time. Deactivating the gem and turning back feels just as uncomfortable, and being experimental technology, it can take a while before the user can successfully revert back. Those who want to fight in the water and lack any weapons or abilities that can be used can request Seok Dang for a weapon. There's a limited supply, but they will be given a special trident. Directly driving the spear into one of the kaiju will electrocute it, giving a higher chance for higher damage. These tridents will be handed out to those who want to use their Ocean Gem and ask.

It's up to Outsiders whether they want to use this new technology or not. Being able to fight the monsters on their own terrain is certainly an advantage, so LILITH would highly encourage it.

▶ 004. MEDICAL BAY.

Healers and those with medical experience will be placed on the warship with a red flag on it. Dr. Spim & Alex will also be present on this ship to assist any major injuries to both LILITH and civilian fisherman alike. This ship is bigger than the others, and while stocked up with the same artillery, it is also stocked with beds and medical supplies. This will be the Outsider's naval medical bay during the siege on the Shachimon and all injured Outsiders or civilians will need to be transported there. This ship will also need to be protected heavily, because once the Shachimon catch on that all the injured, vulnerable prey are being transported to the larger ship, they will start to target that ship in particular. Characters that need immediate medical help should be transported to this ship via a dataportal. Each yacht has a dataportal that can teleport anyone instantly to the medical ship. The dataportals are also located down below deck to prevent them from getting damaged.

▶ 005. THE CALM AFTER THE STORM.

It's a bloody, soggy and gruesome battle and the seas' waves begin to calm down, the sea filled with kaiju carcasses. LILITH's clean up crew is working hastily to collect these corpses, but with the Outsiders' occupied and recovering from their fresh battle, help is limited. Search and rescue scavenges the sea to find any civilians who didn't make it or may need medical help. Meanwhile, the valiant teamwork and effort has paid off. After many hits from many different weapons, artillery, natural abilities, etc. the matriarch kaiju has been downed and sank to the bottom of the ocean floor. LILITH's team will work to retrieve the massive carcass, though it will take awhile. Those who put in notable effort will receive praise and a little extra payout. Outsiders will see an instant transfer of funds to their account: 340,000,000 KRYPTOS. This is roughly about 2500 USD.

The intense battle will have lasted several days and Outsiders are free to go from land to sea as little or as often as they like. It is all over, though, and Outsiders will be called to return to the MAIN BASE for rest and recovery. LILITH will also be searching for the rift where the kaiju came from while Outsiders recover. A message from an unknown voice will pop up an hour or so after all Outsiders have returned to the MAIN BASE. Outsiders may use this time to socialize in a commons area, wash up in the showers, get a meal in the cafeteria or rest.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our first Kaiju log! All prompts are highly encouraged but OOCly optional. ICly, characters can choose to fight in the ocean, on the ships or stay behind on land and protect the city. At the end of the siege, characters who accepted an Ocean Gem will be asked to return it. It's experimental technology, so LILITH will need to do more tweaking before they can properly release it. Outsiders who use the gem may have whatever fish tail they like, as long as it is a sea creature.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the Shachimon matriarch will be determined via a HP-based system (See below).

Please note that all tags in this log count for 2 reward points each. Ask any further questions below!

Below is also the month at a glance. We understand the CALENDAR has been a little inconsistent, but the mod team is sorting all of this out. Expect a FEEDBACK POST this month as well so we can check in with the playerbase and make any adjustments to the game. This log, even if the time stamp says JANUARY, will count for FEBRUARY AC.

Hi mods! So what if someone does want to make this their priority? Is there a place for these people to be evacuated to once the other buildings go underground? If he finds out there are people left vulnerable, Raidou will absolutely want to help them.

The matriarch Shachimon is a massive kaiju that will require many blows with different weapons. It has an HP that is ███ HP.

Respond to this comment with the following information and receive RNG damage done to the kaiju. This comment will FREEZE once it has taken it's final hit. Two characters who hit the highest may receive an IC prize. The character who delivers the final blow will be recognized with an IC prize. Players have until February 8th to respond or until the kaiju is defeated; whichever happens first. Each character may submit a hit a total of two times. 💥 ➊ Suiting Up

[Blaring alarms, warning announcements, a city on high alert, what a great damn way to wake up and greet the day. Flashbacks of U.A. being invaded and Mandalay's telepathic warnings about villains attacking the mountain training camp sweep through his mind, sending a burst of adrenaline surging through his veins. It's happening. After two fucking months of ominous training and talk about the kaiju assault, the moment's here. Is it the same as suiting up for missions back home? Not entirely. This seems like something out of a damn movie. Fuck the movies. It's real life. Suit, pants, shirt, jacket, gloves, gauntlets, boots, gear, mask, Bakugo suits up into his hero costume and emerges from his room in Everlight.

The orders are to go to the bay for transport and that's where he's aiming. Walking with a deliberate, purposeful stride, shoulders leant forward just slightly in a hint of impatience, focus, and eagerness, Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight is on the scene now. It's stiff fucking freezing outside... Though his ultimate goal is the bay, he acknowledges now more than ever that he's been slotted on this team. Those who he's had more interaction with are going to get a scrutinizing once-over upon nearing him or interacting with Dynamight, to make sure they're ready for the mission ahead of them. Depending on when someone catches him, the young hero's expression ranges anywhere from brows furrowed into sharp angles as he focuses on what's coming, to eyes wide and lips curved in an intense eerie slasher grin of battle-lust, because he's been WAITING for this damn monster to show its stupid face! You extras better not get in his way if you want to join ranks with him!]

💥 ➋ Yacht Transport

[Those are some big fucking boats. Initially he's taken back by the size and splendor of them, disgusted at this random show of opulence. Until he realizes their purpose is little more than cover for the war machines underneath. Heh, guess that's some credit where it's due. Dynamight boards one of the vessels and stakes out on the deck, close to the bow to keep an eye out for whatever's coming towards them, or whatever they're approaching. He stays quiet amid the faint drizzle of the morning ocean weather and reviews the mission briefing, as well as the information provided about the kaiju LILITH has managed to acquire.

While he avoids going below deck, not wanting to be caught missing when an attack happens, Dynamight procures a thermos of hot tea with honey, lemon, and pepper flakes, a veritable firebomb among the cold air. The few people that know about his Quirk will likely understand why he's drinking such a hot mixture, heating up his body against the frigid atmosphere and building a sweat. Alternatively, you can find him stretching or working out on the deck to warm up, though when it takes too long, Dynamight will take some quick lessons on how to handle the navel artillery. Find him manning the swivel guns, aiming harpoon guns, or assisting the crew with the missile and torpedo reticles. Just in case he needs to use them during the fight. Never hurts to be prepared.]

Raidou Kuzunoha XIV | Devil Summoner

▶001. SEAS THE DAY

[Any doubts or reservations Raidou might have been showing in the last few weeks seem completely gone when the kaiju arrive. He leaps into action without hesitation.

However, he does arrive a little late. After hearing that there might still be civilians in the buildings above ground, he heads into the city to help evacuate them underground, despite the constant admonishments from LILITH popping up in his field of vision telling him to return to the scene of the devastation.

Eventually he heads to the bay, but waiting for the next round of yachts is not an option at the moment. One of the smaller monsters has slipped past the boats, and has gotten close to the shore. His katana won't do against creatures this size, with skin this thick, so he picks up one of the spears. He's not familiar with it as a weapon, but he's well-trained and strong, he'll figure it out.

If you're caught fighting the 8-meter long baby that made its way to the docks, you'll suddenly find yourself being protected by the spear-wielding teen. He parries the incoming attack from the monster, and holds it off with his new weapon. This will give someone ample opportunity to strike another way. Raidou's face is deadly serious, his voice calm.]

I'll hold it back. Go!

▶002. OCEAN GEMS

[It's not that Raidou is exactly eager to be an experiment for LILITH. He just went through one of their surgeries earlier this week, and isn't too happy to be repeating the process so soon. He'll do anything to help, though, and reluctantly takes them up on the offer of breathe underwater. The process is incredibly unpleasant, and the result makes Raidou wonder if he's become one of the demons he's used to commanding. At least he makes for a pretty merman, for whatever that's worth, with the flowing fins of a black and blue betta fish.

Now he gets yet another new weapon, and his build and speed is tailor made for this new form. He's fast underwater, but these creatures are still huge. After coming at one from the back with a stab of the electrified spear, he gets walloped with the tail and sent sailing back into someone else nearby. Head's up, incoming fish boy your way, 10 o'clock!]

▶003. MED SHIP

[When the battles have finally being to wind down, Raidou can be found in the med ship. He has a few bruises and abrasions himself, but nothing too severe. That's not why he's here anyway. For anyone who enters the room to look for assistance that isn't totally unconscious or in lethal danger, Raidou will shyly but politely try to get your attention. He's glad to have his healing factor to help others, but it doesn't make it any less awkward for him. As if holding someone's hand was a big deal.]

Excuse me. Have a seat. I can help, if you want.

[ Yuji is limping as he makes his way into the med bay, his leg clearly damaged from what can only be described as a rather savage bite mark. He might not have been too badly bullied by the matriarch herself, but one of her children had taken a good go at tearing his leg off - or, rather, had attempted to go for Bakugo and Yuji had literally leapt in the way.

He still feels a little bit like his head is tangled up, thanks to the sonar ringing in his ears, but when he spots Raidou he waves his hand and puts on a grin, some of his tension fading away. He might trust the cat doctor and Alex, since they did his surgery, he doesn't want to bother them when there are people worse off than him.

This is just pain. He can deal with that. ]

▶ 002. WHALE WATCHING.

[ Once the orcas commence their assault, Lucy's up at the front of the fight. She doesn't have a weapon but instead has her vectors slice up the limbs and faces of the Shachimon to blind them or cripple them. That is, when she's not using her vectors to hurl spears at them to pin them to the deck of the yacht.

If you happen to have a weapon good for slashing or spearing, she'll pause in running past you to instead have one of her vectors stop you. Gently, of course. She only needs your attention, after all. ]

I'll throw you at one of them. Try to aim for the blowhole, would you?


▶ 003. OCEAN GEMS.

[ Once she has her fill of fighting on deck, Lucy dives into the water to handle more of the Shachimon there. She's not a bad swimmer by any means, but she makes the mistake of choosing to activate her gem mid-dive. She's lucky she didn't drown choosing to literally sink or swim like this!!

Once she has her bearings, using the bright red fish tail is shockingly easier than she thought. Enough so that she's able to batter into the different orcas underwater without much difficulty. Of course, having her vectors to help stabilize her in the water helps more than she wants to admit.

Anyone else fighting underwater will have her come to help them either with the trident or by her just swimming by and the Shachimon itself getting covered in deep gashes if it isn't blinded. ]


▶ 005. THE CALM AFTER THE STORM.

a. clean up

[ The nature of her powers means Lucy's been putting them to good use in the clean-up detail. It's easy to drag a giant monster carcass when your "arms" don't have much of a weight limit. She doesn't want to go back into the ocean again, though, so she settles with retrieving some of the smaller Shachimon and dragging them back to the collection area.

She's in the midst of doing just that when she wonders aloud to whoever's close by: ]

What do you think they're gonna do with these? Fry 'em up or something? So we can eat something that isn't garbage?


b. the library

[ With the battle taking several days to finish, Lucy is, for lack of a better word, exhausted. She hasn't slept longer than maybe an hour a night the entire time the orcas have been on the attack. Forsaking sleeping to go out into the cold of the ocean and fight is finally taking its toll on her, and as soon as she reaches the common area of the base...

Well, she collapses. In her current state, she figures the best place to sleep is a place that's out of the way, and trundling back to her own quarters will take too long. Especially when the library is right there. Nice, quiet, comfortable, but especially quiet.

If anyone looking to do some post-battle reading heads that way, the first sight they'll see is Lucy sleeping at one of the library's tables. Head buried in her arms, head fins twitching, but otherwise dead to the world. Didn't even take the time to change out of her suit. ]

[ Elan's out here dragging a carcass back for LILITH so their AI overlord cannot be too mad at him for his lily-livered fighting (aka. he probably did not take a shot at mother kaiju nobody look at him—). Noticing a figure on the shore, he zooms in to confirm that it's her, the girl he grabbed taiyaki with the other day. She struck him as quite innocent and an outlier among LILITH's battle-hardened recruits, so he has to wonder how she fared during the assault. He opens his cockpit and disembarks, waving to her as he approaches. ]

Nyuu! Now that's a long face.

[ She seems different today. ]

▶ 001. SEAS THE DAY.

[ Yor's only been on a fancy boat a few times in her life. The last time was with her family, though...as she stands on deck, marveling at the spreads of food on display, she can't help wondering how her family's doing. Is Anya doing better at school? Is Loid going easier on her when she doesn't hit the mark on her tests? Who's washing Bond? He hasn't started eating the throw pillows, hopefully. What about Anya's library book? Did Loid turn it back in on time? Did he pick up the dry cleaning she was going to get on her way home that day?

The more she thinks, the more somber her expression gets. This leaves her staring blankly out at the ocean, her lips set in a line, her posture relaxed yet ready to spring to action at the first sign of danger.

That is, until she catches sight of the artillery weaponry. The mounted guns aren't of much interest to her, but the spears and their shiny points immediately bring the light back to her eyes and she trots over to look at one with a giggly smile.

Do you happen to catch her while she's still lost in thought? Or do you find her while she's hefting a spear up into her hands to test its weight? ]


▶ 002. WHALE WATCHING.

[ Yor's on the offensive as soon as the Shachimon attack the ships. During the attack, she's quick to rush to any oncoming orcas and punch them as hard as she can once she figures out her needles won't be of much help thanks to their blubber. Her punches hit hard enough to stun, leaving her opponents huge targets for anyone else who has a spear, harpoon, or any other weapon that can do heavy damage despite the toughness of the whale monsters' skin.

She doesn't stay on one boat, however. When it seems like the orcas are moving to overwhelm another yacht, Yor's quick to jump the distance between the boats, using floating debris and whale carcasses if she needs to. Anyone having difficulty fighting the Shachimon might just look up to see her landing on one with a devastating blow of her needle stiletto dagger to its blowhole or her kicking down onto its head. ]


▶ 004. MEDICAL BAY.

[ Near the end of the battle, Yor retreats to the medical ship to assist in tending to the injured. She's not a doctor, but her knowledge of human anatomy is helping her in bandaging up the injured, especially with her knowing exactly how to apply pressure to a wound, bandage with little risk of infection, and her deftness at sewing stitches.

▶ 005. THE CALM AFTER THE STORM.

[ Yor hasn't slept much during the days the battle's been raging. However tired she is by the time they make it back to base, she does have enough energy left in her to make it to the showers. She's sulking a bit as she leans against the wall, already in a daze from the hot water soaking into her skin. ]

Maybe I'm a little out of shape after all...that took more out of me than I thought.


b. making tea

[ Once she's properly refreshed, Yor doesn't just go to bed despite her muscles still aching. However late it is in the night, she takes it upon herself to head to the cafeteria to make a kettle for tea. Then, maybe, she'll go back to her room and rest.

Far more pressing to her is seeing another person come trudging into the cafeteria. She perks up immediately and pauses as she pulls a cup out of the cupboard. ]

Would you like some too? Seems like you could use a cup.

[ ishmael seems... very different when one spots her on the ship's deck. instead of her skintight plugsuit, she's donning a certain uniform reminiscent of a ship's captain, the tips of her hair a dirty green. it's also hard to miss a number of luminescent glowsticks sticking out from her back either. but most importantly, her commanding presence fails to hide the manic gleam in her eyes. in truth, ishmael didn't want to use Blind Obsession this soon, and she's all too aware that if she stays in it for too long--

well, she trusts that the people on this ship will stop her if that happens. ]

I'll take care of steering the boat from here on out. [ she says if anyone asks, pressing buttons and shifting gears and levers with the experienced skill of a sailor. even if the seafaring orientation was brief, most ships are the same thing to her anyway. ] You go clear whatever comes aboard from the waters, then wipe the deck with them. I'll get you as close to the Whale as possible --

[ a thundering crash from the deck interrupts her, signaling the arrival of orca children washing up aboard. ishmael grips the controls with a shaky hand, taking a deep breath before turning to bark at whoever has joined her in this neverending hellish voyage. ]

[ at some point, ishmael inevitably joins the fray. the anchor she's wielding may be a bit bigger than her, but the way she swings it about may as well weigh next to nothing for her. so far, so good -- she left the boat on autopilot for a while, and despite the amount of orcas coming in to attack them, the boat has suffered no casualties so far.

all except ishmael's poor mental state, that is. feeling her own sanity slip with every swing of her weapon is familiar and almost welcoming, but she isn't sure how her fellow outsiders can handle her. it's a risk she calculated from the start, and yet... and yet... ]

No... I can't...

[ one can find ishmael at the edge of the ship, gripping her head. the pupils in her eyes shrink into pinpricks as she tries oh so hard to fight off the E.G.O she's wielding, but it's futile. it's a WAW E.G.O, after all.

she then looks up, smiling maniacally at whoever catches her in this very moment. ]

...I have to go. I trust that you can fight me off, too.

[ her final words before she falls backwards into the water. the ship continues to stir itself, and the orcas don't stop coming and they don't stop coming. it may have looked like that ishmael has willingly drowned herself for a moment there too.

but then, something else zooms past the ship. it's another orca-like creature, this time in dark turquoise, with the same glowsticks sticking out of its back and the unmistakable mane of orange hair that the sinner's well-known for. it charges at the matriarch head-on, and with a swing of its tail it sends a throng of glowsticks at it to electrocute the kaiju into submission. the kaiju cries, and while it's far from defeated, it looks like matriarch has taken significant damage.

but ishmael isn't done yet. it immediately turns around and heads for the boats, the sound of her own deranged laughter echoing through the tempests as she leaps forth to attack her own allies -- even the person reading this. though she did mention that she has to be fought off, right...? ]

full speed towards your heart

[ AND THEN SMASH-CUT to the aftermath of the kaiju attacks. even after being smacked back into normal, it's not going to deter her from dealing even more damage to the kaiju. after swearing that she won't be using her E.G.O after all that, she's going to use the experimental ocean gem to attack underwater, her legs turning into eight thick, orange tentacles. it's weird, but she's able to swing it with ease and --

well, that's over and done now, or so ishmael thinks. but apparently after taking the ocean gem off, her legs haven't gone back to normal? and after bitching off the other LILITH staff about this mishap, she's come to accept that she's gonna have to live with this for a few days. like wtf.

so! ishmael is going to be seen all over the base wearing a long dress that fails to hide the tentacles that leaves a trail of water on the ground as she walks. she's REALLY trying to make this work, but she can be found in the cafeteria kitchen attempting to cook herself a meal (ignore the incessant banging of pots and pans as her tentacles insist on helping her out with the food prep), or at the pool of the recreational area, sitting at the edge of it to keep her newfound appendages moist. ugh. ]

here being the relatively vacant recreational pool despite their recent monster encounter. perhaps most don't want to see any water at the moment (valid), but the thought of it draws in izou, thinking that maybe a quick soak to wet his leftover gills might help with the occasional raspy cough that makes it sound like he's going to throw up, or the shaking fits when he tries to breathe but can't figure out which way to do it. even now, a day later, he still isn't used to it, uttering a shallow breath as he braces himself against the entryway before walking inside.

that's when izou notices ishmael, and he steps back, hesitating, like a hound startled by something, the vision of her ferocious form gliding smoothly through all the chaos of those churning waters still clear in his memory. a beast of the sea, terrific and haunting. things he hadn't known about her.

here, though... that hair of hers shines off the calm water of the pool like liquid gold, and the wild laughter that reminded him of his own is long gone, and while he wants to be left alone, is better off left alone, there's something about ishmael. their butting heads thus far. their team-work. that alone makes him swallow his reluctance and stride over to the pool's edge. )

[Well then. Guess it's finally time to see whether or not any of the training from simulations has paid off, or if he's about to end up getting killed instead. He's fine-tuned some of his projections with the ocular implant for creating Duel Monsters that seemed to work during simulations in distracting the fake kaiju in them, but now it's a matter of whether or not it'll actually work on the real thing by comparison...

It doesn't feel particularly confidence inspiring that the plan is to put them all on boats, he thinks, so there's a good chance that the kaiju might even ignore his distraction attempts entirely and just slap him right off the deck. Sure, he knows how to swim, and he has in fact worked on his own physical training on the side, but at the end of the day he's still a human, ocean gem jammed against his forehead and pointy trident potentially getting shoved into his hands not-withstanding. As such, he has absolutely zero appetite for the food below deck, and instead looking at the naval artillery on the boat and trying to pay attention to the quick lesson of how it's supposed to be used. At some point, it seems to occur to him that he probably looks a little too pale and nervous to be here, especially after a passing glance in a reflective mirror, so there's a chance someone might actually catch him giving himself what appears to be some kind of pep talk to calm his nerves--]

One, ten, hundred, thousand, Manjoume Thunder. [And then, in Japanese] Ichi, Juu, Hyaku, Sen, Manjoume Sanda.

[He does this one or two more times before patting his face, and then just like that, he's prepared and ready to do this. It's still cold as hell outside, so if there's any slight twitch of anxious nerves that tries to make his fingers shake even after this, he'll just blame it on that.]

[Once it's go time, Manjoume does in fact have the sense to not be anywhere close to the sides of the boat or in a position where he can be easily tossed overboard--he stands as far back from the kaiju as one can be while on these boats. He's taken a position where he can watch them and study their movements so that he can then see where is the best spots to aim for are, and when someone appears to be in danger of getting struck at, he projects a Duel Monster to appear to distract the kaiju instead. Some Duel Monsters are small and annoying colorful little freaks that flitter about directly in front of the eyes to get the kaiju to turn toward them just long enough for someone else to strike the kaiju while it's distracted. Others are dragons, which he primarily uses for the mother kaiju to be projected flying about at a distance of the world's most annoying keep away game by comparison to distract her with.

The downside however is that he can't project too many at once, as well as all of them having to be within his own direct line of sight since he's using the ocular implant. Otherwise it gives him a headache if he's pushing the hologram capabilities of the implant too hard, so he tries to stick to only using it to help his fellow fighters that appear to be in a pinch long enough for them to recover, or aim for another spot to attack while the kaiju is momentarily distracted.]

[Eventually, however, it seems a kaiju, whether it be the mother or one of the children, somewhat figures out that the source of those weird flickering monsters is coming from this direction where Manjoume is. Or maybe they're just done playing games. Either way, Manjoume very suddenly gets thrown off his feet sideways, whether that be from the kaiju hitting the boat, or something actually hitting him directly, hard enough that he goes completely overboard and disappears into the water below.

It all happens a little too sudden for him to properly react, to remember to use the gem on his head, and thus for a moment he does in fact sink and flail, making the mistake of trying to breathe only to inhale seawater and choke. He's suddenly reminded of that time when he was fourteen, having run away from school on a stolen boat, only to end up causing it to sink and nearly drown. The only thing that had saved him was Ojama Yellow, having sensed him somehow out there in the ocean and getting the headmaster of the nearby school to send the submarine out that saved him. But this time, the little Duel Spirit isn't here to shout and flail in front of his face to get him to slap a hand out and swim back up for air proper.

As such, he may need some help, at least for someone to keep him from drowning long enough to change into a more useful merform here instead. Once he does remember to use it, or perhaps someone slaps the gem on his head and causes it to activate or what have you, he spends a few seconds in sheer agony, because it seems God has a particular hatred for Manjoume Jun specifically today as instead of the sensation of his legs being sewn together, it feels like someone is taking a chainsaw to his legs to split them apart in half, and then those halves into halves, wriggling flesh until it smooths out and takes the appropriate appearance and feeling of octopus-like tentacles. Because a dramatic guy calls for a dramatic merform via an octomer, apparently.

But once he's finished shifting, he'll be using that trident to live up to his moniker of "Manjoume Thunder" and aim for trying to electrocute the damn thing that knocked him into the water.]

medical bay/the calm after the storm (cw: emeto)

[Once he's able to leave the water, whether that be due to a kaiju getting downed or getting redirected to go back on land to help others while other people continue the underwater fighting, there's the agony of feeling his body change back to human, tentacles being stitched back into the shape and form of proper human legs. At first Manjoume thinks he just needs to lie here long enough until he can stand again, but even once he does in fact have legs to do so on, when he makes to push himself upright... he proceeds to vomit up seawater, as if his body suddenly just remembered the water Manjoume had foolishly ingested by accident when he first got knocked overboard, and as such he does not in fact make a quick and cool recovery so much as a very embarrassing pathetic one as he chokes to try to breathe again.

Aside from that, though, he has some cuts and bruises, and while he can't really tell if anything is broken, he probably should go to the medical bay anyway just to be safe, so feel free to escort or catch up with him there later as he's being bandaged or given proper fluids to rehydrate after the near drowning experience. Manjoume is a particularly stubborn guy though, because as soon as he thinks he can stand without wobbling, he attempts to leave so that he can take part in any search and rescue attempts: he needs to make up for how uncool he was during that one part of the battle by at least looking out for and helping any civilians that got caught up in this mess, right?

There's just one problem: it seems that the ocean gem he had been using isn't done messing with him, because despite having torn it off, there's a side effect in the form of his legs not in fact staying together as normal human legs, as when he tries to walk out the door, they suddenly split back apart into tentacles, knocking him back on his ass as they flail about uselessly and knock stuff over, and the staff giving him the news that he might have to deal with that for a few days until it wears off.]

You gotta be fucking kidding me...

[Help him get back up into a proper place to sit and rest? Or maybe let him attempt to struggle out the door anyway rather than rest--half octopus or not, he still can at least help at the beach if needed to go back into the water to look for any civilians that drifted out to sea, right?]

[ It's Elan's first time on a boat and he's not enjoying it. First giant monsters ruin snow, now giant monsters ruin luxury yachts. His visit to earth is going great, and he's thrilled to be cornered into piloting his mobile suit again.

He comes up on deck to listen to the artillery demonstration and walk off some of the apprehension, and it looks like he's not the only one. Though for Elan, it doesn't show so much on his face. He's used to grinning and bearing his way through and his attitude seems almost nonchalant as he leans against the ship's cabin wall to look out over the sea. ]

i. (pre-fight)

[Rodya is no stranger to fighting horrifying creatures, but the sea already exhausted her enough at home and she feels like she is going through it all over again. Regardless, she is climbing onto the yacht even if her current feelings on the matter are pretty negative. Maybe she craves going back into the action again after a long period, as the simulations can only do so much. Or maybe she has an unspoken reason locked inside her chest that draws her to get to work. There could be some other influences that include the thoughts of a fat paycheck, but she kept her mouth shut until she goes below deck to explore once the ships set sail.

-- There's alcohol and you damn right she is going to go drinking before combat. She can only find wine, but she did find shot glasses and that's one way to not go overboard on drinking (she's tempted, don't test her-)]

ii. (combat)

[Good news, a little drinking before things start to pop off did improve her mood! The Shachimon are attacking and Rodya is doing her part to the best of her abilities as she is treating it like she is back on The Great Lake again. She does have to keep reminding herself that her dear manager isn't with her (both a blessing and a curse), but she's been aiming to slash their eyes or cause any form of punctures with her axe.]

Sorry! I know I am a snack, but I don't want to be on your menu~ [Throwing random chatter out there to try to hide any of her stress, as that is simply what she does: masking the emotions she dislike to show.] Let's try this!

[It happens in a flash that it could easily be missed. Regardless if you see it as magic or holograms, her plugsuit has been replaced with a certain uniform and spikes of ice also burst out of her flesh as soon as the uniform manifested. A giant bird talon also appears in her hand and she swings into the face of the nearest Shachimon, ice 'magic' bursting out on impact. While it's more of a blunt weapon, the impact could stun the kaiju enough to leave openings for anyone else fighting on deck.]

iii. (combat: friendly fire mode on)

[Power always comes with a price. Rodya is familiar with that yet she continues to test her odds. She's biting more than she can chew with her E.G.O. that she suddenly froze up in between the waves of kaiju. A sharp pain in her chest, her sanity slipping further away as her cruelest thoughts burst out due to becoming exhausted... It's happening, no matter on her choice.]

Ah... That's right...

[Her head looks towards the sky as the colors in her eyes drain away. Her voice became somber with heavy breathing.]

No matter what I do... I can't let go... I can't change...

[Right on cue, more spikes on ice burst out of her body. Her back, her face, her skull- It all became ice as it breaks out of skin. It transforms her into an avian-like form and as soon as one Shachimon jumps on the ship, she is quick to attack it. Her movements are much more aggressive and the talon in her hand is creating more bursts of ice with every hit. Everything that moves is her target now including you and due to her aggressive swings, the yacht may face some damages if she is not stopped.]

iv. (under the sea)

[Eventually after a period of rest and going back into combat, she goes overboard. Due to the jumping Shachimon shaking the boat, one shake enough to knock her off was bound to happen. It's why she grabbed an Ocean Gem, to take a gamble on it in case she gets thrown into the water. She shoves it on as soon as she lost her balance and that another mistake in her massive list of life mistakes.

While she is not exactly a swimmer, being stubborn along with the adrenaline and general fear does help her start on collecting her bearings as she would rather not die in the ocean. Both breathing and her legs are going through unfamiliar pain, but she moves her body to get familiar with her new tail despite the great pain in her expression. Man, someone on the LILITH team is going to get chewed out for making this hurt!!!

She should get back on the boat, but clearly the whales are not making things easier for her so she's back fighting with everything she got while in this position. She's definitely going to need help down here.]

[Whenever she gets back on the boat, she discovers the hard way of taking off the gem and she hasn't turned back to normal right away. If nobody is around to help her, it doesn't stop her from crawling towards a safe spot without trying to be a tripping hazard to anyone. She shoves the LILITH crew away from her when they tried to help her out. She doesn't care if she has been trailing water or leaving a mess in her path. She made it to the lounge and the woman with a long shark tail is going to crawl up on the sofa and crash there. She will make her way to the dataportal for the medical bay eventually, she needs to recollect her energy.]

I'm still alive. I'll drag myself away in a second, let me have a moment.

[Saying that with her eyes close, but she can still hear people moving around. This is towards anyone that approaches her, but she could be talking to the air as well. This girl ain't going back into the deep sea ever again.]

v. (post-fight hot pot; text and action)

[After some days of resting and recovering where things are more back to normal, everyone on the network will get a message:]

Best way to end a rough mission is always a good feast, don't you think?
I'm setting up a treat in the cafeteria if you are hungry.
You get more extras if you come help me out or bring your own ingredients.

[Everyone get in here, it's hot pot time. After all the shit she went through, she is going to eat and have fun with this huge paycheck. She's not really a cook, but thanks to the civilian job she got, you pick up some things on cooking. You can come find her in the cafeteria kitchen, working on a broth at the stove or at one of the cafeteria tables where she got a decent spread going; various vegetables, meat, and fish ingredients on their own plates along with a smaller yet wide pot containing the broth that is simmering on a portable stove. There is more broth in the kitchen, not to worry. Once all seems to be set, Rodya is already going to start simmering pieces of meat in the pot because she's ready to eat even if the set up took a good amount of time.

under the sea-ish?

[ within the confines of the tower, a water based battle wasn't necessarily easy, but it wasn't infeasible to complete even without enhancements. that is, outside the typical stats of a player. hence, he didn't feel the explicit needs for the gem, even as he wanted to explore the depths of the sea. fortunately, even in the deep water, his eyes still allowed him to see with decent clarity and whatever he couldn't see, he could sense with his sensory field skill.

however, that's not to say he wasn't curious.

especially, at the tail end of the battles; his body tired through the fight with the kaiju. hence, he tried the gem temporarily. perhaps, to help lessen the burden of trying to swim back up to the surface amongst the corpses. the transformation itself seemed less jarring than the side effects, however. since then, he's placed the gem back in his pocket, but he still feels a bit out of it, and it's in this... that he encounters rodion.

considering that she helped him last time, he feels like the least he can do it provide her some support (in theory, he's trying...). he seems to gesture to her in the ocean, as if suggesting they both try and surface. but, even in the ocean water, he feels like he's capturing a hint of something that smells really good? ]

[A naval operation’s new, at least new to her, and the extravagance of the vessels is definitely not what she was expecting. So she’ll be taking a look around both because it’s good to be familiar with the equipment for a mission and also since she’s not usually on board something like this. It’d be hard to justify the expense to her bosses.

She’ll be checking out the food, an amused smile on her face. She can’t tell if this was prepared before they were procured or if it’s some misguided attempt at providing a prebattle banquet for them. Maybe not the best idea if someone gets sick, but...well, she’s curious enough to try some of it at least. So one of the spoons might be something she tries. The wine gets her interest too, but she won’t be opening those.

Food aside, she’s also very interested in the weaponry, taking a look at what the ships have been outfitted with. Harpoon guns definitely aren’t something she’s used to or that she thinks her operatives had much use for, but she can think of at least a couple of Devil encounters where they would’ve come in handy. But there’s little sense in dwelling on it now.

Those are the main two things she’ll be interested in, but she can be found all over the yacht before the battle starts.]

[It wasn’t her intention to but one way or another Makima’s ended up in the water. The gem’s effects are..strange. The discomfort, no that’s really not a strong enough word for it, it’s particularly unpleasant though she has a high tolerance for pain. It’s not enough to make her visibly show her discomfort, but the end result does get her to stop for a moment just to see the state of her transformation.

The gills, the fins, the shimmery tentacles of a jellyfish where her legs were…it’s not something she particularly cares for though she understands the necessity. And she doubts anyone will particularly enjoy or get used to that transformation any time soon, so she hopes aquatic missions aren’t going to be too common going forward.

Not too much time to dwell on it though as there’s a couple of small Shachimons heading her way. She’s still got a spear she had on hand when she went in (thank goodness she still has hands after the gem transformation), but she’s not going to mind some assistance here.]

[It’s over. All in all chaotic and violent, but mission accomplished, so not too out of the ordinary. Also, she's seen some go way worse, so really great job everybody. Plus eventually she’s not half-jellyfish anymore, so that’s good news as well.

And after it’s all over, she’ll usually be found over in the one of the common areas with a cup of coffee. After all that time in the water, something warm seems nice. Plus, it’s an excellent spot to sit and watch as everyone else comes and goes. The ones that haven’t crashed in their rooms or somewhere else anyways.]

[ The fighting hadn't been too bad for Aki, comparatively; he's had his fair share of cuts and bruises that are starting to heal properly now, and he's tired, but he's survived. He even managed to get a proper hit on the matriarch of the kaiju, which had been a complete and utter relief for him. Right now, however, all he wants is a good cup of tea and to crawl into his bed.

Things don't work out that way for him, however, and he stops short when he sees Makima.

Denji had asked - begged, really - for him to stay away from her, but he also knows he can't just pretend he doesn't see her. His new arm aches, the spot that connects his skin to the metal of his body making him wince, but he steps over to offer her a nod all the same. ]

SEAS THE DAY

[ Some would call this the calm before the storm. Megumi had not anticipated his forced employment within LILITH to be a smooth ride (story of his life, really), so he's certainly expecting to be facing off against something huge at the end of this trip. Anything capable of causing the tsunamis they have seen has to be formidable, after all.

What he wasn't expecting ... was the effort LILITH seems to have put into this facade. The pricey-looking yacht makes sense if that is what will bait the Shachimon, but was there any need for the decor? For the expensive and pretentious foods?

Wandering around below deck, with his dog tailing him, Megumi inpects the array of gourmet foods and crinkles his nose. The telltale sign of a picky eater. ]

If they had money to buy all this, they should invest it into buying painkillers.

[ Maybe he's still peeved about that, how brutal the upgrades can be. ]

WHALE WATCHING

[ There's a loud thud, and the screeching cry of an orca. The boat they're on rocks, some of the crew being knocked off their feet as water splashes onto deck. One of the medium-sized orcas have lunged themselves onto deck, and they're quickly crawling onto the boat, surprisingly mobile despite being on land.

She's screeching and lunging at people, trying to grab them with her sharp teeth. ]

It's actually easier when they come on board.

[ He's never had to fight curses in the water. He doesn't actually have any experience in that.

The boy's shadow seems to extend beyond his sihouette, and the hilt of a sword rises from the black puddle of tar-like substance. He reaches down, pulling it out. ]

[ For the rest of the battle, Megumi can be found flying himself from boat to boat with the help of his electric owl Nue and joining it on the battle there, fighting off any shachimon climbing onto boats with his sword and the Divine Dog, and joining it on the battle underwater with the use of the Ocean Gem. Similar to his father, he will be a longfin mako shark merman with a shark tail. ]

MEDICAL BAY

[ At the tail end of the battle, Megumi will be confined (against his will) in the medical bay and forced to rest. He will be sporting some pretty gnarly bite marks on his chest and arms from being caught between the teeth of a smaller kaiju, and he'll need tending to. Though he's removed his ocean gem, the effects will remain for the time being, leaving him with gills at the side of his neck and the flopping tail of a shark.

Anyone who cares to is free to:

1. Help him change his bandages and tend to his injuries.
2. Stop him from climbing over the bedrail in an attempt to reach a glass of water or ... go to the bathroom 😔
3. Stop him from trying to crawl back into battle when the medical bay yacht is inevitably attacked by shachimon climbing on board the ship. ]

AFTER THE STORM

[ it's been a rough battle in more ways than one. thankfully, he doesn't need to go into the details of that. to be honest, even now he feels a bit mentally drained from the effects of trying it out, even it brief. to be honest, it might be the fact that he was also... naturally trying to resist it that made him feel especially lethargic.

but, while he didn't have any physical effects left after removing the gem, it's true that he still does feel kind of weird. but, what a better way to work around that than to completely ignore it? he figures overthinking it didn't necessarily mean an easy solution will come his way, either. hence, he walks into the medical bay, looking for some ointment he can throw in his pocket for later.

is this stealing? who knows. but, then he spots megumi there... flopping. ] ... [ he stares for a second too long, looking over his shark form. if he's judging, it's not entirely clear, before he gives a firm nod. what does this mean? ]

( 001 ) seas the day

[ The alarms ring, and Yuji is in motion.

When they're running around the base, getting things ready, Yuji is gearing up; he has a sword awkwardly attached to his hip and a giant club strapped to his back, looking a little out of place as he rushes around to check on the rest of his team. Anyone in Everlight will probably find Yuji giving them a look, waving his hand, just making sure they're okay - ready? Healthy? Need anything? He makes sure everyone is okay, first and foremost, before he changes into his proper suit and lets himself get ready.

This is something he can do. Fighting is normal, easy for him, so this is a mindset he can slip into without too much hassle or hesitation. If it's a fight, he can win it. If it's pain, he can endure it. If it's something dangerous... He'll be able to push through it. In the back of his mind, he's conscious of his promises to Nanami, to Fushiguro and Kugisaki, but he lets them wash over him like a warm blanket in a winter storm.

Something to remember, to not forget or ignore, but not something that he intends to hold him back.

At the ships, his attention snaps into focus. Anyone who has met Yuji before now will see him a little bit different than his usual freely given smiles and innocence; now he is in the mindset of someone who has forced himself to learn to fight too young, a child soldier stuck in a war with no real escape. His face is set, determined, and as he stares out at the ocean in front of him he doesn't seem to waver. It's as if nothing can rock him now, but he knows that's not the case; as soon as someone is hurt, as soon as his heart gets in the way again...

He's happy to be disturbed by anyone he recognises all the same, lifting a hand to give them a wave or running up to join them as they make their way down to the boats. He's not going to say any of this is easy, but at least it's familiar. At least he's prepared, this time, with weapons and healing. At least he might get out of it alive.

On the boats, though... Yuji looks at all the food, and pouts a little. ]

All this is going to get wasted?

[ With all the civilians without homes, and the cooking Everlight did... Eventually, he pushes himself away gets in position at the edge of the yacht, expression hardening. ]

( 002 ) whale watching

[ The fight starts, and Yuji throws himself into it without hesitation, with all of his usual gusto behind him.

He can be found at various points during the fight, his attention never wavering from the task in front of him.

For the first few hours, he spends time on the boats, his attention on trying to see what other people are doing and deal with the smaller of the orca kaiju as best he can. He tries out his Light sword for a while, clearly adept with it, but he's not really able to do too much with it; the frustration is clear as he tries to cut at the fins and tails of one of the smaller kaiju, to try and knock it off balance and shove it back into the water. Without much success, he decides to change his tactics.

Shoving the sword back on his waist, he rushes forward instead. Rather than trying to fight the smaller orca and protect the people on the ship - anyone who is doing their own thing, trying to fend off the smaller creatures or direct the yacht towards the matriarch for more damage - he is going to take matters into his own hands, literally. Bending down, Yuji wraps his arms around one of the smaller child orca and... Just lifts it up, hefting it above his head, turning to throw it back into the ocean with a shout that's sure to grab attention.

When he turns back to the rest of the people on the yacht with him, he just grins, as if lifting a 1000kg creature was nothing. ]

Woah, is that another one? Let's go!

[ Later, Yuji's attention shifts from protecting the yacht and the people making plans to trying to work with other people to do team attacks; he actually did the reading this time and one thing stuck out to him: loud vibrations in the water can stun or confuse. The kanabo is taken off his back, and he's quick to look around and see if there's someone that he can work with.

As soon as he spots someone who seems prepared for another attack, he rushes up to their side, skidding to a halt with a breathless huff. ]

This thing can make a little earthquake. If I smash it against the side of the ship it'll vibrate, right? So you wanna try it?

[ His final attempts are attacking the mother Sachimon directly. Rather than trying to use a yacht to get to her, Yuji decides instead he's just going to... Jump onto her back. So jump he does, making what seems like an impossible leap and drawing his sword. The first time, it slams into the eye of the matriarch with a burst of bright Light, Yuji slipping down and along her flank with the water rushing up to meet him. He didn't take one of the gems, so he's quick to try and twist, to shove himself and dig the sword into the meaty side of her body. After that, he's on his way back up, clambering a little, breathless, before the more savvy of people might see the sword glow in a pale blue light.

That strike hits her in the eye again, and this time Yuji is thrown off, slamming with a crash into one of the yachts, definitely causing some damage. When he picks himself up, he's breathing hard but seems otherwise fine. ]

Damn, she's tough.

( 003 ) medical bay

[ While Yuji might not care about his own health all that much - he's always been durable - he knows how important the medical centres are going to be to the people he's working with, so he's quick to divert his attention to the ship with Alex and the doctor on it as soon as he thinks it's under attack.

If anyone needs transport to the medical bay, Yuji will be happy to take them; either wrapping them up in his arms and carrying them princess style or grabbing them by the hand and lifting them over, heedless of his own cuts and bruises.

Inside the medical bay, during a moment of pause, Yuji will also be there to offer healing to anyone who might want it, either because they don't trust LILITH or because touching him is a better option than what they might be giving. Sitting down, he'll hold his hand out with a small smile, even if he does look a little worn down and tired; this is normal for him. He can deal with it. ]

( 004 ) calm after the storm

[ After the fight, Yuji lets himself collapse in the common room.

He has a pretty gnarly leg wound that he's ignoring right now, the blood sticking to his clothes as he rubs at his face. His weapons are resting by his side, and he's doing his best not to just fall asleep in the middle of the shared space. He knows he has to pick himself up and actually take care of himself, but he's exhausted. Sleep is a rare luxury when fighting, and while he's been a little more careful than he usually is... He's still Yuji Itadori. He's still a little too accustomed to tolerating pain to do anything but push through.

A little later, clearly having showered, he flops down in the cafeteria and stretches out over a table, groaning quietly. Someone's bullied him into taking care of his leg, and his weapons have been stored. It's just Yuji, a red hoodie and bags under his eyes to match the little scarring. There's a cut over his left eye, but it seems to be healed well enough; that one he could take care of with his own healing touch, even if it felt like it took hours.

If he sees someone he knows, he'll lift a hand and wave absently, trying not to yawn and crack his jaw. ]

[ Yuji can't help the way he looks out for the people he loves while he's fighting, despite knowing how adept they are at taking care of themselves. Fushiguro, Kugisaki and Nanami are all adept fighters, good sorcerers, and can deal with these kinds of fights alone, but with everything that has happened over the last few months for him... His instinct remains to protect them, to make sure that no matter what happens they come out of this alive and well, that nothing long-lasting ends up weighing on them.

The problem is that he had promised to be better, to take care of himself a little more, so his focus is split between being a touch more cautious and trying to be as overbearing as he's allowed to be before it gets annoying. He doesn't really want Fushiguro or Kugisaki to hit him, or for Nanamin to scold him with that low, gentle tone again. He'll just end up crying, and that would be embarrassing.

There comes a point, however, where Yuji throws himself over the edge of one of the yachts and spots that familiar expression, the stern face, and his own expression brightens. He skids forward a little, trying not to slip on the water that's lapping over the edges of the ship, rubbing a hand against some of the blood that's on his cheek so as not to worry the other man. He's not badly hurt - he was taking this as seriously as possible - but any cuts or bruises might get him the kind of attention he doesn't want right now. ]

Nanamin! Are you doing okay?

[ The yacht lurches, and Yuji winces, digging his club into the wood to keep himself in place before he turns his head. One of the smaller kaiju is making its way over, and he groans before hefting his weapon up. ]

Hey! You remember what I told you about this thing, right? Do you want to try it out?

[ He and Nanami had always fought well at each other's side, and this time he doesn't have to worry about holding back against humans. This time, he can go all out and really show off a little, to try and earn that little bit of praise. It also has the benefit of him being able to check that Nanami isn't hurt and hiding it from him at all. ]

Sorry, I don't feel like becoming fish food today.

[ The gem they're given gets shoved into his pocket, not only because it's fishy (ha...) but because Elan has no intention of going in the water. He will look on with horror and curiosity at anyone equipping the gem and willingly subjecting themselves to LILITH's mad science. You're built different.

He has his own equipment, as much as he balks to see his gundam. The 10-foot robot has been brought along on one of the bigger luxury yachts and is sitting out on display like one might show off a fancy car. If only this were that kind of banquet... ]

02. whale watch

[ The sheer size of the mother whale sends chills down his spine. For the first time he feels safer in his gundam than out of it, the Pharact's jetpack keeping him airborne and safe from the orca's snapping jaws. From above he spies people leaping or swimming to engage the beast which is madness. ]

You're kidding me. You want to get close to that thing?

[ Killing it is what they're here to do, but still. The giant shrugs off fire and swallows ships whole.

During the battle, Elan can be found offering support fire from the air, particularly around the medical ship that he's noticed being targeted. He'll also hug the shoreline to shoot down monsters crawling into the city. He appears reluctant to engage mother kaiju however, to the disappointment of mecha fans everywhere.

To anyone at risk of being swept away by the waves or struggling in the water, he'll fly low and offer a large mechanical hand to cling to. ]

03. search and rescue

[ By the insane strength of the Outsiders, the giant monster is somehow toppled. Elan's relieved, of course, but glimpsing the injuries others had taken and knowing he'd fared better only thanks to the protection of his mobile suit leaves him feeling complicated. Seeing as he's still fit and in possession of a working robot, the rescue crew puts him to work lifting debris and retrieving merchant boats from sea. When checking buildings, he's forced to disembark and search on foot, but wherever he's sent, he arrives on scene wearing a smile and waves to the rescuers already there. ]

I was told you could use a hand!

[ Blade isn't looking too bad after most of the fighting has been taken care of. A few cuts, a few bruises, but otherwise still in one piece. He's been told to look for survivors in the buildings near the shore, something that he almost refused to do, but since he has nothing else going on—

He looks up just as he's about to waltz into a broken-down structure, failing to recognize who it is. ]

Is that what they said? [ He's not the best at saying hello. ] If you want to come, I planned to look in here.

[ Time to start lifting some debris to carve out a path for them to walk through. ]

Taryon Darrington | Critical Role

A. Prep

[So. They are going to fight a monster underwater. Using boats, thankfully, but it was to avoid a beast that moves swiftly in the vast ocean. Taryon recalls bringing up the Kraken he fought back home, and how the party was close to dying multiple times thanks to poor planning. It's superstitious to believe that his mentioning it summoned the Shachimon, but boy does he regret dwelling on it.

This time, he'll do better. He's learned. Before they even head out into the water, he must be aware who is working where. A few are using the gem-like devices (he's confused at first and wonders if LILITH employs artificers because the "nanobots" are explained to him) and directly fighting in the water - Taryon doesn't have raw firepower, so he decides to remain on the boats as long as possible. Some people may need a boost to their speed or evasion, others will want to be more nimble if one boat gets destroyed.

That's a lot of coins to enchant before a fight. Taryon thinks he will get 10, at most. But 10 spells could mean 10 lives saved.

But it sucks when there's a lovely set of food and drink and he's stuck on the couch, one ankle resting on his knee, supporting the hand-etched metal coins that he's infusing magic into. It takes time, with two fingers pressed against the surface, to enchant it with a spell that's ready to be pulled out at a moment's notice.]

Can someone get me a plate? And maybe a bit of wine? I'm a bit busy. [A pause.] So, who's going into the water?

B. Battle on the High Seas

[Fighting on a moving boat isn't easy, but it sure is less stressful for Taryon to run around with his sword in one hand, swinging at orcas while he has his shield activated. Really easy! And they have weapons!

It's still terrifying! Taryon stabs the smaller kaiju and slashes off bits of their fins with practices effort, but his face reveals someone who has yet to be calm in the heat of battle. A baby charges at him with his mouth open. Taryon screams. He holds out his ring shield just in time for the orca to bump into an invisible force and throw Taryon onto his back.

In the rare times the coast is clear, Taryon takes the helm. The concept of piloting is complicated, but when it comes to turning the yacht in a vague direction, he gets it. And there's a pod headed towards the civilian fishing boats. Obviously, he has to lure the monsters away.] Sorry! But I promise I'll send us back! [The boat hits a choppy wave and jumps a few feet in the air.] Just- shoot those things if you want to get back so fast!

C. Boss Fight

[The fight has been underway for a significant chunk of time, and Taryon hasn't focused on the largest foe yet. It's time to change that. All he has on him is a basic melee weapon that doesn't even shoot electricity.

But this yacht is filled with weapons. Harpoons, he doesn't get. But guns? Those, he can do. He jumps onto the swivel gun seat and grabs onto the handles of the weapon with all the strength of a man who knows this is his lifeline. There's a massive shape in the churning water below, doing gods know what, but eventually, she has to breath. Taryon points the barrel of the gun at the spot closest to the surface of the water and follows it for a good few minutes.] She has to get out. Come on... [It's not going to be as effective if he shoots it underwater. The kaiju needs to breathe, and damage to the blowhole would force her to stay above water more often.

A black, shiny mound peeks over the waves. Taryon slams his fingers on the trigger, and a volley of bullets fire at the surrounding water, with most striking the sensitive skin opening up. The shape quivers, and there's a low roar coming underneath the boat.]

( everyone's scattered to the nine winds with their preparations. with some watching the angry seas, some anxiously pacing about, and some like her who's taking the lackadaisical stroll about picking up the miscellaneous hors d'oeuvre here and there.

the call for wine and food is heard, of course, but the best she does is pick up the whole platter arrangement and a bottle to pair with to set the arrangement by him. the assortment of finger foods should be easy enough to pick at while working, and she does at least pop open the cork before taking a lounge herself. )

  SEAS THE DAY  

[ arguably, there was far too much downtime in this place. more than he was accustomed to, and it likely showed in how he often found other methods in keeping himself relatively busy. so he’s eager when it comes mission time. he supposed this would be a good test of what his abilities were outside of simulation.

but, despite how “eager” he may have been, he also logically comprehends there was no use sweating the smaller details for now. trying to draw out bait wasn’t always easy and instead of being worked up, he figures this was the one moment they had to really prepare themselves for what was to come. that said…

he’s under the deck, laying out on a very expensive leather sofa, his feet propped up on one of the tables with the oysters as he places a leaflet or something over his face as he closes his eyes. is he really resting like this while waiting for the shachimon…

maybe. but, the second he hears a noise, or someone bumps into him, he speaks from under the piece of paper. ] Watch it. [ truly… where is his sense of urgency. but, that said, it isn't like he's totally slacking, it's true he's keeping a good tab on their surroundings through his sensory field.

but, does it look like he's slacking? pretty much. ]

  WHALE WATCHING & AFTERMATH 

[ while the weaknesses may have been listed on the data sheet, he doesn't exactly have an easy method of necessarily following it to a tee. hence, he seems to be shifting the way he attacks. from using mana blasts, to traversing over carcasses. he isn't exactly delicate in his methods and so he feels pretty comfortable even kicking carcasses out of his way—

which inevitably might be troubling for people fighting within his close proximity. also, if convenient, he might even ping the nearest person through the oculars, a quick: ] Quick. Lend me a hand. [ being sent in succession.

after a run-in with the matriarch, perhaps as the effect of being blasted in the head, he might seem a bit disoriented for a second. he's not exactly unsettled on his feet, but he might definitely be standing in the pathway of the medical bay, or idk the bathrooms, maybe even hunching over. if you know him, he might not even remember who are you for a second. weird... ]

[ considering their initial contact, yuwon would say that he had a fairly decent impression of aki. at the very least, it was clear the man was skilled in areas where he was... clearly lacking (i.e. caring for children). yuwon wasn't the type to so easily forfeit a good deed someone has done, and so he doesn't exactly mind the idea of him. which may not sound like much on paper, but it's genuinely pretty good in his books...

who knows when this is in the time frame of them having to suit up and head out, but it likely helps that they come out of the same wing within the base. he walks up very casually beside him. normally, he wasn't one for small talk, but maybe it's the touch of irony to the situation that makes him speak up.

❀ WHALE WATCHING I

(The ship rocks against the ever growing waves and it's a miracle if anyone is able to settle down at all like this. Suddenly, it lurches hard to one side, undoubtedly sending its inhabitants tumbling where ever they may be. It manages to right itself back up but before anyone can wonder if they hit something… it becomes obvious that what had actually happened was that something hit them.

Another great wave comes, sending the ship turning over once more. The waves splash onto the deck and what emerges from the spray are the first Shachimon. They kick and claw their way across the deck, tearing at the wood and chasing after prey on board.

Tsurumaru moves quickly on deck, his sword striking at one of the younger creatures on board. Despite the tossing and turning in the waves, he never appears to lose his balance. In fact, it almost looks like he's dancing from target to target, taking advantage of the momentum of the ship to move about, )

Haha! Tonight, we ball!

(Yeah, he said that.

A brief pause in the fighting and he looks back at you,)

❀ WHALE WATCHING II

(It's when the matriarch rises that things take a turn. Just by size alone, it's obvious that there's no way a single person can take it down and Tsurumaru is wise enough to see that his preferred weapon and fighting style of choice are not going to be the most advantageous here. From a distance, they'll need to rely on artillery and if they're lucky (or unlucky) enough to get close, it's clear that they'll need more specialized weaponry to really bring down the matriarch shachimon.

A pod of young shachimon charge at their ship at the same time, sending a great wave at the ship. Tsurumaru and anyone on board finds himself splashed by the powerful wave but that isn't all. From the wave, the matriarch emerges and swipes a heavy claw across the deck. Stunned by the wave, Tsurumaru takes a hit. It knocks him off balance, he slips, and hits the railing. His sword clatters down onto the ground and he lunges for it just as another wave besets them. He's more focused on getting his sword back than he is about the wall of water or the matriarch trying to bring them down with her aggressive flailing. He doesn't even care that she's about to snap at him with her jaws.)

❀ MEDICAL BAY

(When the battle is over, Tsurumaru can be found in the medical bay. He'd been brought there a little while earlier. He's mostly dried off and is wrapped up in a blanket to keep him warm. He coughs violently, practically gagging.

Hoarsely, )

Water. (He wants water. ) And give me my sword—

(He's reaching for an ornate blade on a nearby table. A nurse scolds him telling him the battle is over so he doesn't need to go back out anymore while keeping him back.

Impatiently, he snaps back. For some, it may be the first time they've seen him lose his usual cool and whimsy,)

I said give it to me.

(Or maybe instead of a nurse, you're the one taking care of him in which case you may know he was brought back in after being stunned in the battle. His symptoms match with consuming too much salt water but unlike most of the others, he can't seem to recover. Maybe he still has water in his lungs…?)

[ Aki didn't get severely wounded in this battle - he was being careful, which is both illogical and odd for him, but he is trying - but he's got enough cuts and scrapes to get him to go to the medical ship and the med bay before he lets himself wander off home. If Denji caught him with any sort of bleeding or bruising that he didn't have checked out, he'd inevitably end up in trouble.

His new arm is aching, the water acting like cold rain to leave him wincing as he flexes the metallic fingers. Yeah, it aches, but he's not about to ask for any kind of painkillers or anaesthetics when he got through the initial surgery without it.

Hearing a familiar voice, his eyebrows raise as he sees Tsurumaru, stepping over and settling down in a chair at his bedside. ]

Do you really need your sword here?

i. WALL JUMPS

[ For all that Shion has been extremely vocal about swordplay being just as useful as anything else in fighting the kaiju, finding himself on a ship in face of massive sea monsters does spark a moment of wry reflection. He should really know better than to assume anything at this point, but here they are.

Well, he hasn't let impossible odds stop him yet, and he isn't about to start now. The moment the smaller creatures start heaving themselves onto the ships' decks, Shion bursts into movement, prioritizing speed to keep himself out of the whale's range. The strikes he makes are precise and decisive, focused on the head and eyes as he keeps himself constantly in motion. One particularly good stab directly into the thing's open mouth finally sends it crashing onto the deck, but before it's even finished falling Shion is already on the move again, picking up even more speed until he's running sideways along the hull of the yacht and launching himself at one of the other nearby boats.

It takes a few back and forth jumps between the ship's sides before he finally manages to get enough momentum to throw himself up onto the deck, skidding across the surface right behind another of the Shachimon that's just managed to haul itself on. ]

Behind you! [ It's snapped at the figures he can make out just beyond the whale's body, though whether he means the creature or himself is up for debate. Either way, he's already on the move again, sword bared and ready. ]

ii. IMPROBABLE AIMING SKILLS

[ His sword might have fared well enough against the smaller Shachimon, but even Shion has to admit that there's not much it can do against the mother. In a moment of relative calm despite the rocking ship underneath, he considers his options, then suddenly turns to make his way towards the guns mounted onto the deck. Evidentially someone has shown him how to use them, since he seems very sure of himself as he settles behind one of the swivel guns and takes a deep breath.

Right in time for the matriarch Shachimon to burst out of the water a short distance away, her massive head turned towards on of the other yachts. With an almost eerie amount of focus and without even bothering to turn his head in the creature's direction, Shion waits for one second, then two, then fires. Somehow, impossibly, directly into the moving whale's eye. ]

iii. SUPER DROWNING SKILLS

[ All the steadiness and agility in the world can't save you if there's suddenly no ground to stand on, as Shion gets to discover the hard way. He senses the massive wave coming a second too late to do anything about it, and then the entire yacht is tipping up on its side and it's all Shion can do to push off just enough to keep from ending up underneath it as it capsizes.

And then he's in the water. It closes over his head and the shock of it is enough to stun him for heartbeat or two before he extends his senses to try to find his way back to the surface. Only to be met by millions upon millions of energy signatures, veritable walls of moving pinpricks of light in every direction, endlessly billowing clouds that make it impossible to pick out any actual shapes. They're everywhere, surrounding him until there's no way to tell which way is up. With every other sense deadened, all he can do is desperately try to catch the form of something he recognizes, to find any kind of landmark in order to figure out where he is.

Anyone else in the water might spot his figure floating under the waves, utterly still, apparently no sign of struggle at all. Is he hurt? ]

i. WALL JUMPS

[ Yuji is also an up-close and personal fighter, so being behind like this and having to figure out how to get into close range isn't going well for him at all. The problem is that he's got his fists, his club, and his sword; all utterly useless unless he can get himself close enough to the matriarch. It means that, for now, his focus is on the smaller ones, dealing with the orca kaiju before he can leap across to try and hit the mother.

He's jumped over to the ship with Shion, skidding to a halt beside his friend with his Light sword in hand. Twisting around, he cuts low on one of the orca, trying to get at it's feet before he breathes out and turns his head up, to stare at the other guy before giving him a wave. He must look a sight, sword in hand, club strapped to his back and his attention wavering between ally and foe. ]

Hey, Shion! You okay?

i. Below Deck

[ Nanami has never been on a fancy yacht, and even if it's only for a few minutes, he's curious enough to explore below the decks. He has to make sure the "yacht" is actually able to withstand a monster attack, right? Otherwise who knows what they'll end up facing? He's not expecting the setup to lure in the shachimon to go as far as using real food for a fake dinner party. He can't help looking a little scandalized by what is obviously a high price tag worth of food being essentially thrown away to hunt monsters. ]

They're just leaving these here?

[ To be abandoned once the fighting starts? He's honestly a little horrified. Look at all the good wine! ]

What a waste.

ii. Avoiding Whale Teeth

[ Once the actual fighting starts, Nanami doesn't hold back. Compared to his pretty lukewarm responses to the simulations, he's actually showing a surprising amount of motivation in facing the whale kaiju. No complaints (yet) and no hesitation when it comes to facing the young whales, even though that's probably just because they are climbing into the boats. Nanami is currently sandwiched in between two of the smaller shachimon, warding them off by holding his wrapped knife in front of him as they each try to lure him into exposing himself to their teeth and claws. Cornered in the deck of the boat, he can't necessarily attack one without leaving himself open to the other unless he gets the perfect opening, and they aren't about to give him that chance.

And to make things worse, another of their larger siblings is swimming around the boat, ready to leap up if Nanami tries to retreat out into the open. It's just a bad day for him. ]

iii. A Little Mermaid Moment?

[ Nanami does not activate the ocean gem, which turns out to be a problem later. In the middle of the fighting, he ends up leaping onto the back of a larger shachimon to attack it. The hit lands, cutting into the kaiju, but he's also stuck on top of that monster, who doesn't take to being stabbed very kindly. Nanami is hanging on basically through the knife jabbed into the monster, being tossed around as it tries to reach him. When he sees one of the other Outsiders in the water under them, apparently also sporting fins, he shouts down. ]

Stay back!

[ Don't come closer while it's thrashing around! Although he doesn't get that far in the attempt, because the kaiju does manage to smack Nanami with one of its clawed fore-fins. The claws dig in, and Nanami pushes the knife down further, creating a violent tug-of-war that does end with the claws coming free, but not without leaving bloody gashes across his body from stomach to back. In return, Nanami pulls his knife free and stabs it into the kaiju's nearby eye--and then ends up getting thrown when the monster jerks back with a scream. He hits the water, which at least has give, but now he's unfortunately trying to tread and not get eaten by the kaiju around them. Or he might bleed until he passes out. ]

iv. Just Bandaids and Motivational Signs

[ After the sea battle is finally over and everyone gets some rest time, Nanami takes full advantage of the shower and taking over the common space by spreading out on a couch and either reading one of the library books or sleeping there. It's not like anyone else wanted to use this room, right? He still looks pretty roughed up, but at least he's not bleeding all over the furniture. Yet? The bandages were definitely applied on his own.

On the upside, he usually has coffee and snacks with him that other people might take advantage of. ]

[the_fourteenth]

[Raidou is drawn to the common area by the smell of coffee. Even the instant stuff the cafeteria provides is better than nothing right now. Like everyone, he's exhausted.

He quietly approaches Nanami when he spots him on the couch, all hastily bandaged. Raidou is bruised and has a bandage on his right forearm, but he definitely could be in worse shape. He's had no time to use his healing factor on himself with needing to use it on everyone else. It didn't work very well on himself anyway.

When he walks up, and after a moment of hesitation, offers a hand towards Nanami. He's done this a lot in the last few days, but it was still strange to him.]

Ah. I can help, if you want. I can heal you up.

[ Aki is tired.

His arm is aching, the cold of the salt water leaving him miserable as he tries to keep warm. A shower helps, but he still feels the chill, the way his muscle complains from the sudden overuse after months of nothing being there. He’s used to nothingness, to being without a limb, and the new weight of it has been an adjustment - a good and necessary one, but still hard to stomach.

A little warmer, back in his civilian clothes and with his hair loose, hanging around his shoulders, he heads out on a new mission: find Denji and make sure he’s safe.

He doesn’t really anticipate his friend being hurt beyond what being Chainsaw Man can heal, but that isn’t the point. Denji is all Aki has right now, a solid place in his heart that’s immovable, irreplaceable, and he knows he’d risk a lot to keep him safe. Pointlessly, maybe, given his own mortality, but the sentiment remains the same. He wants Denji to be happy, to be safe, to find some measure of comfort here. If he can do something to help that…

The route to Denji’s room is familiar, at least, and he leans against the wall for a moment before knocking on the door and waiting, fighting a yawn. ]

[ they finally get to see what's the big deal about the kaiju's they've been hearing about, and they have surely been a handful— nothing too extreme for devil hunters, though. after being deprived of embracing the identity of chainsaw man, enduring long months of being threatened, and getting mindfucked by the church and public safety at the same time, it was freeing to be able to pull out his chainsaws again and have people call him by the name he missed so much.

today has been a bliss, and it felt amazing, every second of it. in fact, he's still relishing the aftermath of all that gore and feeding, holding a crooked smile as he opens the door for aki. ]

I guess the arm works.

[ he steps back, subtly welcoming his old friend to make himself comfortable. thanks to the gift card bakugou offered him a few nights ago, denji managed to buy an extra bed. there is no formal agreement between them, no pressure, but the bed is here just in case someone didn't feel like being alone. ]

[ Ren makes quick work of the smaller orcas that manage to make their way onto the boat. His blade is sharp and swift, digging into the flesh of the creature when it is within striking distance. Its cries are ignored by the swordsman, and when many more follow up to avenge their fallen ally, they're taken care of just as quickly and without much fanfare.

He's always been good at that, killing things before they become a problem. Even more so when someone is counting on him to get the job done.

Once the last monster falls, he turns to Kafka. His expression remains neutral as always. ]

That was the last of them. Was there anything else?
