KAIJU FIGHT #1
KAIJU FIGHT #1
βΆ 001. SEAS THE DAY.
On the morning of the 1st, sirens will blare, forcing every Outsider and Neo Tokyo civilian awake. While it hasn't been activated for a while, every citizen within the city knows this alarm all too well - it wails through the city whenever a Kaiju has been detected, ordering everyone to return to their homes immediately and stay there until they receive further information. Outsiders gazing at Neo Tokyo will see the armored city in its full technological splendour for the first time today. Once the civilians have returned to their homes, machinery within the buildings will work like clockwork, sinking each and every LILITH-augmented building beneath the ground. Just in time, too, because the waves are starting to roar again, crashing beyond the shore and flooding the city once more. Observant Outsiders may note that not every building has been modified. The older ones remain standing, vulnerable to the impending flood. Does anyone live in those buildings? The answer is yes, but that's not a priority at the moment.
Every Outsider will receive a summon, ordering them to prepare for battle. The Kaiju has been identified and located. It's show time.

Waiting for the Outsiders at the bay appear to be ... expensive-looking, personal yachts? This has to be a mistake, right? It's no mistake. Through intel LILITH has exchanged with international companies, it appears that this particular Kaiju has a fondness for overturning civilian yachts, and there's no better way to attract it than to leave it its favourite bait. The goal is to attract these Kaiju towards the boats and then attacking.
The ships may look like they're outfitted for a fancy yacht party. In fact, some exploring down below deck in the lounging room, one may find caviar on fancy ritz, oyster tower, little finger sandwiches with the crusts cut off and bougie smelly cheese that nobody in LILITH's pay grade can identify. On another table, there is fancy ramen spoons filled with microgreens, crystal jelly vinegarette, and a thin slice of parmesan cheese. Some further looking may find some fine aged wine, but you're not here to drink and party, you're here to fight a Kaiju! Right? Right.
Despite the fact everything about these yachts just look like... fancy yachts... they are actual warships that are mounted with naval artillery such as swivel guns, missiles and torpedos. Spears, harpoon guns and fishing nets can also be found and used if an Outsider is more comfortable getting extremely close to the monsters. There's no time for a proper seafaring course, so Outsiders will be given a quick run down on how the controls work, and be sent on their way. They will also be given a special jewel-like implant that attaches to the skin, right along the forehead, and told to wear it if they need to go into the water. "Don't worry about it," the LILITH crew says. "But it'll be one hell of a ride if you use it."
Alongside the crew, Seok Dang seems to be also assisting (?) though he's gotten a hold of the reception food down below. Did he smell like fine wine? Possibly. But that's definitely a fancy, half eaten cracker in his hand. He's also got on a bright, neon life preserver. Maybe someone doesn't know how to swim.

Nobody uses that phrase anymore, but you know what? You do you, SD.

"Angels of LILITH. We have located the Kaiju coming from beyond the sea. A full mission brief including the information we have gathered will be sent to you immediately. For now, make your way to the bay where your transport will be waiting. Be prepared for anything, but mostly, be prepared to swim."

βΆ 002. WHALE WATCHING.
Minutes into their ship's course, the boats will rock violently, as if those already violent waves have somehow come alive. There is something in the water! The mission brief would have been shared with them sometime during their trip, but maybe Outsiders want to pull up on their implant the image and debrief shared once again now that there is some action. The orca-like Kaiju trying to reach the shores of Neo Tokyo is called Shachimon, and she's been the cause of the violent waves and flooding we've seen for the past few weeks. Alongside of her and are her children orca who love to mimic everything their mother does. The biggest one, the matriarch of the pod, is over 60 meters in length - large enough to swallow a boat whole. The younger ones are smaller but just as ferocious, spanning from the size of a car to the size of a bus. The youngsters are a size small enough that they can leap out of the water, sometimes crashing down onto people and ships. Beware!
Shachimon will be fighting to knock over boats, or climbing on boats with their amphibious legs. Once they get their hands on humans or Outsiders, they pull them into the water, tearing them limb from limb to feed. Their control over the waves are no joke, either. With a powerful swing of their tail, they can conjure up tsunamis capable of overturning ships. The matriarch, if left to her own devices, seems bent on submerging Neo Tokyo to make food of all its citizens.

β β β MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEETAs a note, Outsiders who wish to remain on land and help civilians there may do so. There are waves flooding the city, and some of the smaller, quicker Shachimon will have made it to shore. They will need to be taken care of before they can terrorise the city.
NAME: Shachimon
HEIGHT: Younger whales are 4 - 18 metres. The matriarch is 60 meters in length.
WEIGHT: 1500kg - 5000kg
CLASS: Highly dangerous.
LOCATION: Large bodies of water
ABILITIES: Use of sonar to detect any water movement. Fast swimmer. Very sturdy body thanks to all that whale blubber. High intelligence - commonly works together as a pod to take down prey. Capable of creating tsunamis that overturn boats. The largest Shachimon can sink a city if not stopped.
WEAKNESS: Electricity (since it will be inside water), dissection, spearing its eyes or blowhole. Loud vibrations within the water can stun or confuse it.
EXTRA NOTES: Dislikes and will attempt to overturn civilian yachts. Carnivorous, eating marine life and human flesh. Sadistic personality, may play with their food prior to eating.
β β β MISSION OBJECTIVE:
β Lead the Shachimon away from the shore.
β Extermination of Shachimon in the water and if they reach the shore.
β Protection of nearby fishermen's boats and civilians within those boats.
β Teamwork to destroy the matriach Shachimon.
β Bring back specimens (live or deceased) for research purposes.

βΆ 003. OCEAN GEMS.
Shachimon are most deadly in the water and their go-to strategy is to pull others into their turf, where they have the advantage. That's where those jewel-like implants come in. These implants, called OCEAN GEMS, when attached to the skin, temporarily modify the body. Once activated, nanobots will invade the bloodstream and alter the user's lungs, giving them a set of breathable gills. Their legs will also be altered, giving them fins and the tail of a fish. This is a recent invention by LILITH ever since the first Shachimon was spotted a few years ago, and the technology is still experimental. This means that the transformation process will be significantly uncomfortable, feeling a bit like being asphyxiated and having your legs sewn together at the same time. Deactivating the gem and turning back feels just as uncomfortable, and being experimental technology, it can take a while before the user can successfully revert back. Those who want to fight in the water and lack any weapons or abilities that can be used can request Seok Dang for a weapon. There's a limited supply, but they will be given a special trident. Directly driving the spear into one of the kaiju will electrocute it, giving a higher chance for higher damage. These tridents will be handed out to those who want to use their Ocean Gem and ask.
It's up to Outsiders whether they want to use this new technology or not. Being able to fight the monsters on their own terrain is certainly an advantage, so LILITH would highly encourage it.

βΆ 004. MEDICAL BAY.
Healers and those with medical experience will be placed on the warship with a red flag on it. Dr. Spim & Alex will also be present on this ship to assist any major injuries to both LILITH and civilian fisherman alike. This ship is bigger than the others, and while stocked up with the same artillery, it is also stocked with beds and medical supplies. This will be the Outsider's naval medical bay during the siege on the Shachimon and all injured Outsiders or civilians will need to be transported there. This ship will also need to be protected heavily, because once the Shachimon catch on that all the injured, vulnerable prey are being transported to the larger ship, they will start to target that ship in particular. Characters that need immediate medical help should be transported to this ship via a dataportal. Each yacht has a dataportal that can teleport anyone instantly to the medical ship. The dataportals are also located down below deck to prevent them from getting damaged.
βΆ 005. THE CALM AFTER THE STORM.
It's a bloody, soggy and gruesome battle and the seas' waves begin to calm down, the sea filled with kaiju carcasses. LILITH's clean up crew is working hastily to collect these corpses, but with the Outsiders' occupied and recovering from their fresh battle, help is limited. Search and rescue scavenges the sea to find any civilians who didn't make it or may need medical help. Meanwhile, the valiant teamwork and effort has paid off. After many hits from many different weapons, artillery, natural abilities, etc. the matriarch kaiju has been downed and sank to the bottom of the ocean floor. LILITH's team will work to retrieve the massive carcass, though it will take awhile. Those who put in notable effort will receive praise and a little extra payout. Outsiders will see an instant transfer of funds to their account: 340,000,000 KRYPTOS. This is roughly about 2500 USD.
The intense battle will have lasted several days and Outsiders are free to go from land to sea as little or as often as they like. It is all over, though, and Outsiders will be called to return to the MAIN BASE for rest and recovery. LILITH will also be searching for the rift where the kaiju came from while Outsiders recover. A message from an unknown voice will pop up an hour or so after all Outsiders have returned to the MAIN BASE. Outsiders may use this time to socialize in a commons area, wash up in the showers, get a meal in the cafeteria or rest.

"Good work."
βΆ 006. AFTERWORD.
Welcome to our first Kaiju log! All prompts are highly encouraged but OOCly optional. ICly, characters can choose to fight in the ocean, on the ships or stay behind on land and protect the city. At the end of the siege, characters who accepted an Ocean Gem will be asked to return it. It's experimental technology, so LILITH will need to do more tweaking before they can properly release it. Outsiders who use the gem may have whatever fish tail they like, as long as it is a sea creature.
Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the Shachimon matriarch will be determined via a HP-based system (See below).
Please note that all tags in this log count for 2 reward points each. Ask any further questions below!
Below is also the month at a glance. We understand the CALENDAR has been a little inconsistent, but the mod team is sorting all of this out. Expect a FEEDBACK POST this month as well so we can check in with the playerbase and make any adjustments to the game. This log, even if the time stamp says JANUARY, will count for FEBRUARY AC.

Not the same as fighting curses. Not the same as dealing with villains. But it's similar enough for both of them. Bakugo jerks his head up when the creature suddenly attempts to twist around on him, eyes widening at the bloody maw gaping from the previous attack and its non-crippled limbs clamoring onto the slippery ground. This bastard's coming for him with lethal intent! A hysterical last-spurt strength to take him out with its death! He slams a hand back, fighting through the pain as he readies himself to respond. If this thing thinks it can-!
Yuji-?!
Once again, the guy's getting in front of him, body interjecting between the kauji and Bakugo. It happens too fast to react to. The flash of teeth, a subtle crunch of meat and bone against teeth, splurts of red against glistening black and white. Leaving Yuji with his leg gripped within the kauji's jaws. Just like what happened during the war...]
Itadori!
[Fuck this. Fuck this! FUCK THIS!! As soon as Yuji's fist crashes into the creature's mouth hard enough to make it drop him, Bakugo crushes the kauji's tail between his ribs and arm. EXPLODE, DAMMIT!! It doesn't hurt, it doesn't struggle, it just ignites. BoomBombB-BO-BOOM!! One blast lights up the entire deck before the kauji's yanked aside by its tail. Sails over the railing of the ship before swinging back around with another harsh explosion. More and more, rotating Dynamight and the monster into a twisting vortex of blazing orange and black/white in the air. He's had enough of his teammates getting mangled because of him! More, faster, harder, hotter! He'll turn the goddamn ocean into fucking summer if he has to! Heat up! Twist!] DIE!! X-CATAPULT!!
[The air sucks in and detonates, shockwaves crashing through the ship and the surrounding area, stunning nearby kaiju from the blast. With all that force and momentum, Dynamight fires his captive forward in a hellish hurl, lancing its smoldering carcass straight into another group of kaiju for a massive crash of water. Their ship rocks as the waves slam against its side, the area feeling momentarily like a missile just dropped in.
Dynamight lands on the deck with a slam, both legs absorbing the impact through his feet and knees. His arms pulse and throb, fingers locked in a clawed snarl position from overexerting himself. But among those panting breaths and quivering muscles, he's wearing a victorious wild grin under those kind-of bloodshot eyes.]
Piss off... you... fucking fish... I win.
no subject
When he puts weight on it, he stumbles a little, wincing as he pushes himself up to force himself to get into position, to move forward. He can still lift his club, he can still drag it up to try and swing it down to hit the orca before it gets too far, but he can feel the blood dripping down his leg, staining the deck of the yacht below him. His mind isn't consciously thinking about what it means, the intensity of the injury, but at the same time he knows he's going to end up in trouble.
Ready to get back into the fight, he shifts closer, turning towards Bakugo - but then the other guy is moving, taking charge without hesitation. Yuji hasn't seen his teammate in action before now, so his eyes widen a little as he watches, the booms echoing around the deck and leaving his ears stinging a little. This plus the sonar definitely means he might have a headache later, but he can deal with that. It's no big deal.
As soon as Bakugo is back, Yuji steps over, wobbly as he leans down to rest his hand on the back of Bakugo's body, careful not to put too much weight on his bleeding limb. They probably need to get out of here now, maybe head to the med bay, but right now his first priority is making sure that the guy in front of him isn't completely knocked out. When he spots the grin...
Well. Maybe they both enjoy winning, just a little bit. ]
Yeah, you won, dandelion. You did a great job.
no subject
There's red on the deck, slithering across the glassy water-covered surface. Yuji's blood, seeping out of him while the guy's still doggedly determined to fight. He knows this without even turning around to look at him. War's a fucking messed up thing, a place where you run the risk of watching people important to you die, where people you care about get injured in front of you... Bakugo's not going to make that call to Yuji's friends. Fuck you, kaiju!
A hand on his back breaks through the internal revelry and his grin vanishes for a moment into a scowl, then a brief cocky smirk of victory, and back to something more grumpy when Yuji compliments him like that. Bastard, who gave him permission to nickname him anyways?! It'll take a bit for his arms to work again, but he can still straighten up and move the rest of himself.]
Fuck you. We did. [Shut up and take the credit too.] Now stop walking on your damn leg, idiot. [They won. They both enjoy winning. Who the fuck doesn't? Bakugo turns towards Yuji with a growl, ducking down a bit to make that hand on his back slide further over around his shoulder. Basically getting the sorcerer to hold onto him in order to get off his injured leg.] We need to get that bandaged.
no subject
It takes a little more for Yuji to stand straight, and it's only now that the threat of danger is gone that he's able to look down at himself and see the wound. It makes him wince, his suit damaged and torn apart. It doesn't look like it's down to the bone, not as far as he can see, but he's not a medical expert. His fingers trace down his thigh to his knee, reaching out to try and push some of his own healing abilities into it.
Yeah, that's not really helping. His healing touch either isn't strong enough to work on himself, or he just hasn't practised enough. ]
It'll be fine. It doesn't really hurt.
[ Which isn't a lie: Yuji is too used to pain, too accustomed to feeling it, that he can shrug it off. Looking around, there doesn't seem to be any more of the smaller kaiju coming towards them, perhaps put off from their brethren being damaged, so... With Bakugo's arm around him, he's able to lift his head and try and give him a little grin, smothering the urge to shrug it off over and over again. Maybe he should get it checked out. ]
There were some sheets and stuff inside the yacht. We can use those for now.
no subject
Stop poking at it, idiot.
[Bakugo can't see any bone sticking out of Yuji's leg and the guy had been walking on it just a bit ago (even if it was more staggering) so the bone's not broken. But despite that, puncture wounds covered in kaiju saliva can't be good for the guy's body. Even if he's resistant to toxins, the outright immunity versus their dampened powers is up in the air. Not something Bakugo wants to gamble on in the middle of a kauji fight. Yuji assures him that it's fine" and "doesn't hurt" and where the fuck has he heard that shit before?]
Shut up, Deku.
[It comes off his tongue before he has a chance to think about it. Bakugo pauses, then grits his teeth and steels himself against the instinctive comment. Hopefully Yuji won't mention it and they won't have to have that not!conversation weighing down between them. He's got the sorcerer's arm around him, and making sure Yuji's not putting weight on his bitten leg, Bakugo starts walking them towards the covering in the center of the ship. Just need to get in there, get some water and a met kit, then he can patch Yuji up quickly while the other guy rests.]
Aa. Keep conscious or I'll kill you myself.
[He could cauterize the wound if he could use his Quirk, but right now, it's stunted. Just keep walking. One leg in front of the other. One step after another. Until they're inside the confines of the yacht and Bakugo can ease Yuji onto a couch.]
no subject
There are so many of them here who can deal with these kinds of problems, and they're all surviving. He has to force himself to recognise that this isn't Shibuya, this isn't the Culling Game: he's not alone here, he's not suffering these battles in isolation. He can rely on other people, and just like before, when Kugisaki had given him hope, he's getting it in spades. He's not alone in this fight.
Lifting his head, he raises his eyebrows. Who's Deku? Probably not the time to ask, but... ]
I'm not gonna pass out. The pain doesn't bother me that much.
[ Yuji does lean on Bakugo a little more, though. If he could sit and breathe for a moment he could heal this completely, but since they don't have that much time... He starts to head towards the inside of the yacht, only letting himself slump down when there's a suitable chair for him to collapse into. ]
Oof. Thanks, dandelion.
no subject
Bakugo likewise had to realize he couldn't do all of it alone. He saw where that led, both in his own life and in others. Proud and self-reliant as ever, he had to accept there were times when others came first. Whether that's caring for his teammates or letting his teammates care for him. Sure, he'll be a grouchy bear about it, but that's just par for the Bakugo course.]
Uh-huh. [Yeah, he doesn't believe the pain thing, having heard it plenty of times from other stubborn thick skulls. Himself included. Swiping a first aid kit, he kneels down beside Yuji and starts tending to his leg wound. Wiping the punctures with disinfectant and clearing away the blood. This would be easier without the pants in the way, but telling Yuji to drop trou right now was... not gonna happen.] Stuff it, Gari Head. If you got time to talk, focus on healing yourself.
[He has that ability now, right?]
no subject
Leaning back in the chair, he groans quietly, sticking his leg out. The wound is pretty gnarly, and he winces, lifting a hand to rub at his face before he sits up a little. He should be trying to heal himself, he should be trying to fix this, but he's tired, and his ears are ringing like alarm bells in his head. Tired, a little worn down, he breathes out and tilts to look at Bakugo.
They worked well together, huh? He's not going to say it aloud, fearing the reaction, but... ]
I'm working on it, okay? It's harder to heal yourself than it is to try and heal other people.
[ His leg twitches, but Yuji doesn't flinch away from Bakugo's touch. He's made of stern enough stuff that he keeps pushing through the pain. ]
no subject
That bratty little groan earns a glare, but Bakugo says nothing as he works to clean the wound. Yuji's lucky he didn't lose his leg, but he's made of tougher shit than an orca bite. However the fuck that happens. When the sorcerer doesn't show any real effort to do the whole healing self thing (maybe he doesn't have to hold his own hand to make it work internally), Bakugo lets the issue drop. They're both tired. Pushing him harder will only wear Yuji out more. Better to let him rest while he deals with his injury.]
Then just rest for a few minutes. [He could also take the time out, not pummeling his arms with repeated explosions and taxing his sweat glands. The aching is starting to go away as he does less stringent work, fingers unfreezing. Each twitch has him back off for a second to let the jump of pain pass, then gets back to it, not wanting to take more time than they need.] You remind me of my classmate. He fought through his injuries too. Hated to rest and heal after getting fucked up.
[Granted, Midoriya fucked himself up a lot of times...]
no subject
He might be able to get the leg workable so that he can deal with some more of the orca later, but he's well aware of the fact that he's going to have to visit the medical bay. At least his other cuts and bruises should disappear with time, and he can probably handle those without having to ask for anyone else to help. Yuji doesn't mind leaning on other people, but if there are others with more serious wounds... They ought to come first, compared to someone like him who's strong enough.
Lifting his head, Yuji offers a small smile. ]
Is that Deku? You said his name earlier.
[ He hesitates for a moment before he pats the spot next to him. Bakugo is almost done handling his leg, and it doesn't seem like he's come out of their fight completely unscathed. If Yuji can help him... ]
C'mon, sit close to me. My healing might be able to help a little just from us being this close.
no subject
Bakugo isn't going to tie Yuji down, but he can only do so much on his own. A medic will have to deal with the more thorough treatment of the wound. He can clean, disinfect, stitch, and bandage well enough, but isn't going to do that level of detail when they can get Yuji to a medic to do it professionally. Right now, he just wants to stop the bleeding and get medicine on it before bandaging the wound up. Then Yuji can use it for a bit more on the way to the medical ship. He's not dumb enough to think they'll make it all the way there without a fight.]
Aa. [Thinking back on Midoriya is difficult. Especially with what he last remembers in the war. With what Deku was handling. He flicks a warning glare up at Yuji for the suggestion. Mostly because he's right here handling the guy's leg! Doesn't that count as touching enough?! ... Probably not. Clicking his tongue, Bakugo finishes up the bandaging, then drags a chair over for Yuji to rest his foot on and keep his leg straight in the meantime.
Only then does he grumpily sink down beside the other boy.
... shoulder to shoulder. Arms crossed. There. Compromise. Unless Yuji wants to poke the bear.]
no subject
Bakugo is a little bit like some of the other people he's met in his time - a little like Kugisaki, a little bit like Maki-senpai when she gets really mad, as strong as Yuji himself is but with a coarse shout to match it. He likes him, likes to be around him, and the idea of Bakugo staying hurt because he thinks it would make things easier has his heart aching a little too much for him to handle; it's too alike to his own thoughts, and he knows he'll get shouted at if he said it aloud.
His leg twitches again, just a little, and he sighs softly. ]
You don't have to talk about him if you don't want to. I know it's hard sometimes.
[ If he had to go into depth about his own complicated feelings regarding the people he's closest too, so he's definitely not going to make any demands of the other guy right now. With how tired he is, the aches in his body echoing the emotional aches, it'll just end up with the two of them getting frustrated with one another and maybe saying something they don't mean.
What Yuji does instead is smile, nudging Bakugo gently. ]
... I know I was angry at first, but thanks for talking to the others for me. In the end, it was probably a good thing for all of us. I'm trying to be more careful now, did you see?
[ He's not running off into the fight again! ]
no subject
Tch. Don't need your permission. [Thanks for pointing out the obvious, Yuji. Yet as they sit here in the quiet, trying to do that resting healing thing, Bakugo honestly takes to account Yuji's smiling admission. Of course he'd been mad he got ratted out, but now he's thanking him, and admitting that was a good call. Heh. What a victory for Blasty McSplode over here. It gets a smug, grumpy snort from the winner as he settles a little more against Yuji's shoulder.] Yeah, I noticed.
[Both of them are sitting here, taking a time out to rest even while there's a war raging outside. It's rather foolish looking in from the outside, but not being reckless idiots and getting themselves more damaged is the better idea. They can trade a few minutes of downtime here to avoid having a lot longer time recovering from something worse later.]
He's my classmate. I grew up with him. He's got the same damn reckless streak you do, always focusing on how he can save and protect people, no matter what it costs him. [There's a hell of a lot more to this story, but that's not for this moment to divulge. If ever.] But he's grown into an amazing hero despite so much shit being against him. Though it took the rest of the class to beat it into his thick head he didn't have to go that path alone.

At least he can be pleased at the knowledge that his efforts are paying off. It's recognisable, that he's doing his best not to throw himself into the middle of danger and have his limbs ripped off; the smile on his face makes his lips curl a little, and he hums, pleased, content. He doesn't mind sitting here for a little bit longer, even if he can hear the screaming and shouting from outside. ]
He sounds pretty amazing. I'm glad you have someone like that at home. [ He wiggles a little, awkward and on edge, before he looks over at Bakugo. The way that this guy cares about this Deku person... Is that how Fushiguro feels about him? The idea makes his heart sting just a little bit, and he sighs softly, one hand gripping the torn fabric on his leg.
This is stupid, but... ]
In my world, where I'm from, Kugisaki and Nanamin are dead. [ The words feel heavy on his tongue, weighted, and he has to force himself to swallow and keep going. His heart hurts more than the leg wound. ] That's why I didn't want to get them worried or make them feel bad. I wanted to try and make them happy here, even with the weird missions we're going to have to do, and to try not to worry about me. I guess that was pretty stupid.
no subject
The fact both of them are in here on their own accord without diving back out into the fray with wounds bleeding and untreated says a lot about those efforts not to be crazy. Bakugo can already tell this isn't going to be wrapped up in a few hours. They might be at this for days. It's going to require give and take, trade offs to let others rest while trusting their companions to hold the lines. This is war... not some damn one-on-one gauntlet to the boss.]
Aa. [Izuku...] These assholes pulled me from a war back home. The greatest villain my world's known's trying to destroy everything. Izuku was the only one holding him back. [And now Bakugo's. He doesn't know what happened to his friend, doesn't know what happened to All Might, who he just rescued from All for One, but now that he's vanished, who the fuck knows what the outcome is. Did their world freeze? Are their bodies back home gone? Is this just some fucking alternate-dimensional copy that has no bearing on their own real selves in their own worlds? None of these questions are answered, and the concern sometimes keeps Bakugo up at night. If something happens to All Might or Izuku because Bakugo's not there...
His frustrated thoughts pause when Yuji also opens up. For a second, the blonde stares at him, eyes widening slightly as reality hits. Kugisaki and Nanamin are... dead? The information hits hard for multiple reasons, laying a very weighty puzzle piece down as to why Yuji acts the way he does, and says the things he does, about his friends. (It also somewhat mitigates Bakugo's suspicions of Yuji having a crush on his teacher. Shut up, it sounded like that!) But his expression firms up again as the sorcerer goes on. No wonder...]
Che. Such a caring guy. [Bakugo turns around and properly leans his back against Yuji's side, slumping down and crossing his arms over his chest again, legs tucked up at the knees to squeeze himself in a black and orange ball on the couch. No apologies for his mask's explosive burst of spikes out the back of his head.] If they didn't care about you, they wouldn't worry. More than that, I know they're happy to be with you again.
no subject
Maybe he's protecting himself a little, by hiding it all away. Yuji knows, deep down, that the way he feels isn't normal, that it's dangerous to keep letting himself think the way he does - it'll keep getting himself into dangerous situations and keep risking his own life, but that's the way it should be, at least as far as he's concerned. Yuji can handle the pain, can handle suffering, is built for pushing through the kind of agony that other people can't survive, so why can't he be the one to do it?
Nodding his head, Yuji sighs. ] I get it. We're fighting something similar where I'm from. It's not a war, not yet, but it's heading that way if we can't sort it all out now. If it gets out of hand, the way I think it is... It'll be just as bad for us as I guess it is for you. [ Yuji doesn't know what's going on with Fushiguro, and the last thing he remembers is awful, so he has to try and ignore it, or he'll have some kind of breakdown.
The person Yuji has become is shaped by his losses, and he has to force himself to push the pieces of himself together so that he can hold other people up. He loves them, and he will die for them. It's that simple. ]
That's the problem, isn't it? They'll worry about me no matter what, so the least I can do is ease some of it as much as I can. [ Yuji adjusts, letting Bakugo sink into him as much as he likes. He doesn't care; he likes physical affection of almost any kind. ] I'm happy to be with them too, I just... Don't know what I'll do if something does happen to them again. Any of them. I dunno if I'll be able to handle it.
no subject
Bakugo isn't blind to that feeling. He too has issues like that, not wanting to share his victories with other people and not wanting other people to know he's struggling with weaknesses. Stubbornly self-reliant and wanting to accomplish things on his own so there's no doubt that he's the one who did it. But his is fueled by pride, the urge to appear strong and inspire confidence. People like Yuji and Deku are fueled by, in Bakugo's opinion, compassion gone nuts. When you don't care about yourself enough to value your own life and well being. Just because they can handle it doesn't mean they should. In one view, it's fucking selfish.
In another, it pisses him off because Deku flat out told him, and the rest of his class, that they couldn't "keep up" with him. Dissing their strength, telling them that all they trained for, all they've sacrificed and bled for, wasn't able to cut it. They weren't worth his trust in their strength. Of course Bakugo took offense to that, even though he understood where Deku came from. The young hero just wanted to protect the people he loved by taking on the burdens he believed they shouldn't, or couldn't, handle. It's noble. It's heroic. It's fucking stupid.
But that's Bakugo reflecting on other people. He himself has plenty of issues of his own...]
Bastards. [He closes his eyes in annoyance.] Pulling all of us away from those important moments in our lives. [It sounds like so many people were yanked from wars, deaths, graduations, shit that they didn't want to vanish from. Yuji's story just adds more to that simmering fire. A world heading towards war... He knows what that ominous feeling is like, how it weighs on you with uncertainty as you struggle to keep going.] You and the other sorcerers are trying to stop it, aren't you.
[Yuji's world still has its own heroes to fight.
Everyone is shaped by their losses and lessons learned from them. It's not hard to realize trials shape people far more than blessing and idleness. But damn they can be hard to go through. Bakugo holds that heroes must be ready to sacrifice themselves to win, but the greatest heroes wouldn't let themselves get put in to that do or die situation in the first place. Death, for him, should always be the last resort. After all, a dead hero can't save anyone else...]
Haa?! That's not a fucking problem, idiot! That's part of life! Giving a shit about someone. What if they told you to stop worrying about them? [Turn Yuji's own concerns right back on him. He'd have no more reason to sacrifice himself out of concern (worry) over their well being. It's not that Bakugo's trying to undermine the sorcerer's mindset. Yuji has a good heart, a heroic one. But putting the brakes on a runaway train before it wrecks itself... Meddling when you don't need to is the essence of being a hero. Bakugo's not going to stand by and watch when he can step in.] You worry too much about what could happen. Don't let it distract you from what you have now.
[Or you'll make a mistake you'll never forgive yourself for. Again.]

It's a difficult line to walk, but he does his best, as stupid as it might be.
Yuji doesn't want to rely on his friends, not because they're not strong enough, but because he wants them to live more than he wants to save his own life; wants them to live above his own survival. He doesn't matter, in the grand scheme of things, but they do. They've always mattered most to him.
Nodding his head, he sighs softly. ]
Yeah. We're going to do whatever we can to stop it. I have to figure out how to free Gojo-sensei, and then we can deal with the rest of it, just... A little bit at a time. It's not much, but that's the only thing I can do right now. It's not much, but that's what I had.
[ Looking over at Bakugo, he twitches, trying not to laugh. This is the guy he knows, not the catlike one who made him feel a little softer, and he has to force himself to calm down. ]
Look, I know it's hypocritical! [ Yuji scoffs a little, nudging him back. ] I know I'm lucky, that I get to see Nanamin again, and spend time with Kugisaki. It's just... If I have the power to protect someone and take care of them, shouldn't I be allowed to do that? If my strength is that much, now... I should use it to protect people, like I promised I would.
[ Yuji might not get to die on his own terms any longer, and he can't say that he's going to be able to die without regrets, but... He already hates himself for all the things he's done, already can't forgive himself. Nothing will change that. ]

What he doesn't like is how Yuji and Izuku want to protect people they care about so much, they end up proverbially stuffing those people away in little safe boxes, keeping them out of danger and trouble, smothering them and denying them the chance to protect the stupid self-sacrificing idiots they care about. In his mind, that's just as asinine as telling them "you can't do it" for whatever damn reason it was said. Too weak, too soft, too slow, too vulnerable.
The intent is as gold-hearted as you can get, but the execution is fucked up. No one wants their friends to be endangered, of course not. But just like Izuku's friends are also heroes, Yuji's friends are sorcerers. They trained to fight alongside him. Knowing the risk to their bodies, safety, health, and life. Depriving them of that, forcing them to watch someone they care about bleed, suffer, and die for them... How the hell does Yuji think that makes them feel? Or does that thought not even register...
He asks these questions because he's asked them before about Izuku, simmering in anger in the dorm while that damn idiot gallivanted about the world trying to do every fucking thing on his own, while Bakugo and the rest of 1-A stayed behind in the dorm. Doing fuck all while THEIR WORLD TOO and THEIR FRIEND was put in danger. Putting himself in danger. Of course Bakugo was pissed!]
Tch. Glad you're smart enough to figure that out. [Bakugo closes his eyes as he rests.] You can't do everything at once.
[Just like they had to in their own world. One thing at a time. Plan for the villains' attack. But before they did that, they had to get Izuku back. But before that, they had to force the issue with the principal and the other Pro Heroes. And before that, train to become strong enough to bring their rouge classmate back. One thing at a time.]
You sure you know that? [No shit it's hypocritical. But there's a difference between knowing something, and knowing something. The latter one often begets action to change... Bakugo grunts slightly at the nudge. Bastard. The words irritate him because Yuji's making logical points, but this isn't as logical as the dumbass wants to make it.]
There's a difference between protecting people who can't fight and smothering capable people who want to fight beside you! [He unfolds his arms and reaches up towards Yuji, particularly his head.] Would you be happy if I knocked your ass out right now and left you safely in here while I fought?
[Not that he's going to, but...]

It's still something he's trying to shake himself out of, shove himself away from, because if he admits it aloud he's going to get himself into more and more trouble. His friends would bash him on the head for every stupid, self-deprecating thing that crossed his mind, but he's never going to let them know even a whisper of it. That would just cause them more grief and pain, more suffering, and he can't do that, for all that he might be willing to share some burdens now.
He's just not that kind of person.
Waving his hand, he watches Bakugo softly, hoping his healing touch is doing something to help his friend out, even if he's not necessarily being conscious of doing it. ]
It'd be pretty cool if I could, right? Ahh, that would ease so many burdens.
[ Well aware of his hypocrisy, the nature of his own demands - Yuji wants to do things to help, to fight, to win, but he wants to protect the others and prevent them from risking their lives. They're just as strong as he is, maybe even better with cursed energy and their techniques, but he has the raw durability to survive them all. It's a weird, twisted up dichotomy in his head that he's still trying to work through.
Ducking his head away, he winces a little, far too used to dodging hits to his skull to give in so easily. ]
I get it, okay, dandelion! Don't do something rash, I'm listening, okay? Jeez!

Though Bakugo knows damn well that a lot of Midoriya's insecurities came from the way he treated the other boy for being Quirkless. Even the nickname 'Deku' should probably have alerted Yuji to something going on there. Who want to be nicknamed "useless" ... unless Yuji's instinctively like Uraraka and assumed 'Deku' was used in the 'i can do it' vibe. Anyways...
Bakugo isn't alien to the idea of wanting to be validated by your own actions. To feel like you're worth something takes accomplishments, victories, successes. If he continued to fail, he'd have to wrestle with self doubt and thoughts of worthlessness that would eat away at his intense pride. But he has his pride, he knows what those feelings can lead to, and he refuses to let himself wallow in those self-depreciating feelings. Harder, stronger, faster, better, he won't rely on anyone else to determine his own worth other than himself! Everyone else, every challenge, they can fuck off if they want to claim to be the litmus test of what Bakugo's worth! That's his and his self's privilege alone!
That's the kind of person he is.
Yuji's touch is helping. The ache in his arms, the cuts, bruises, and scrapes, they're feeling better. Enough that Bakugo's irritably having second guesses about the healing implant. As much as he hates the idea of letting LILITH invade even more of his body, the reality is, being able to heal his allies is an insanely heroic and helpful asset in a battle. Of course, he'd look like a flaming hypocrite after giving Yuji such shit over the implant. (Well, less getting the implant and more getting it without thinking about the potential ramifications.) It bothers him right now he can't heal the sorcerer more than his patch job on his thigh's already done.]
Every hero thinks that same thought. Think it all you want. Just don't get lost in that dream. [There's no shame or failure in wanting to shoulder it all. So many heroes would love to be able to do what All Might did. Become so successful, get so strong, the Symbol of Peace would radiate all villainy and suffering out of the world, and leave everyone happy, protected, safe. What idiot would say such a dream is stupid to strive for? (Ignoring the insane crowd whose happiness rides on abusing other people.) Bakugo doesn't want to crush Yuji's good heart. It's not wrong to want to protect people you care for. He just doesn't want the other boy to think he has to do it on his own. It's such a lonely, suffering road... He can't help but picture Izuku, tired and dirty, scuffed up and alone, almost on the verge of tears as he begged, then threatened his own friends to get out of his way when they came to bring him home...
Yuji ducks and all Bakugo does is rest his hand on top of the sorcerer's head. I get it, he says. I'm listening, he promises. It's honestly hard to believe him, but he chooses to anyways. So he just-] You're not alone. Remember that.

For the last few weeks - before arriving here - all he has been doing is forcing himself to push and push, to work through all the horrible things that keep happening to him. The fights, the near-death experiences, the loss upon loss; all of it has culminated at this moment, where he sits beside Bakugo and wonders if he should be going back out and fighting despite the wounded leg. The last few weeks have improved his mindset just a little, but he still recognises just how uncomfortable he is with the idea of being happy.
He wasn't meant to be coming out of his situation alive, and he had always known that. The very purpose of his existence was to die, to give his life to stop Sukuna, to be a perfect vessel and cage until the time came for his execution. Every moment that he's had since Gojo-sensei had first brought him to the school had been on borrowed time, so maybe he had always been risking himself knowing that it was what he was meant to be doing: that his life was expendable, since he had been told it from the start.
Bakugo speaks, and Yuji smiles weakly. He doesn't see himself as a hero, as someone who would have that kind of shared dream. He doesn't think of himself as heroic at all, with the choices that he's made that have led to so many terrible outcomes. How much blood is on his hands now, how many people have died because he ate that first finger? Will he ever be able to make up for it all, even if he's able to destroy Sukuna and end the Culling Game?
He doesn't think so, but...
Leaning into Bakugo, he sighs softly, forcing a smile. The hand in his hair is a familiar sensation; some of his friends have done the same, in the past, and when he's been lucky Nanami and Gojo-sensei have done it too. It's a nice feeling. ]
I'll remember it. Thanks, Bakugo, for helping me out.

They won't agree on many things; he can see that now. Self worth, happiness, what someone "deserves" in life... Like Izuku, there are things about Yuji Bakugo is never going to understand, simply because he can't "get" it. But it's be a lot harder to understand someone if they're dead. Thanks to his talk with Nanami, he knows some of what Yuji's straights are. About how he's supposed to die after serving as a collecting prison pot or Sukuna. Bakugo doesn't agree with that notion, he won't, and he'll fight Yuji on it if the issue ever comes up. But that's not an argument for now. It only gives a backdrop.
Strange that someone who did everything Yuji did wouldn't see himself as a hero, when in Bakugo's world, those very actions, decisions, and thoughts would solidify him as a great (if not also crazy) hero. How many people blamed themselves for the deaths All for One, Shigaraki, Dabi, Toga, and the other villains caused all because any one of them didn't kill the villains in the past? Those who had a hand in the villains' turning towards the paths they did... even if it isn't their fault. Perhaps Yuji's also like that, shouldering the blame for something someone else did, but he feels personally responsible for. Just like Izuku. A question Bakugo can't answer. But he knows for one thing, death shouldn't be the first choice to atone for something like that.
A forced smile. Right, nothing said here put any of the mess beneath to rest. Yuji's too stubborn for that. At least he listened. And Bakugo's not someone to let a soft moment like this go for long, sliding his hand off and crossing it over his chest again. Ironically, Bakugo dislikes it when people put their hands on his head like that. Makes him growl and feel like he's just some dumb kid the adults or other person want to pamper or baby. He even got grumpy and annoyed when All Might did it.]
Tch. You helped out too. [The fighting earlier, the healing now.] Have you been able to heal you leg at all? [He knows it's harder for the implant to work on the owner.]
no subject
[ How can he tell when the bandage is bright red and covered? Better not to ask.
The gentlest praise is enough to make Yuji feel better, a little more of a smile settling on his face. He wants to be useful, wants to prove himself, to show that he can do good things as well as bad things, and he feels thrilled to get even the littlest thing from Bakugo. It feels as though the other guy doesn't give out a lot of praise, even the most basic kinds, so he lets himself buzz with the excitement before he stops himself.
Slowly, he pushes himself back up to his feet and tries to rest some of his weight on the hurt leg. It doesn't make him wince, and he's able to stand up almost properly, and that makes him clap his hands together in glee. This is a good sign, isn't it? He's feeling pretty good about it, and he turns back to Bakugo with a beaming smile. ]
Alright! We can head back out now, if you're feeling better?
[ The idea of sitting around and feeling sad isn't doing him any good, so he's ready to get going and throw himself back into the action. ]

That doesn't mean Bakugo isn't silently shadowing Yuji when he gets back up, standing beside him with his arms at his side, looking to all others that he's not paying attention, but is obviously primed and ready to catch Yuji if he stumbles. Red eyes linger at the sides of their sockets, noting the sorcerer's leg for buckling, as well as his neck and jaw for telltale swallowing and tensing against the pain. Yuji doesn't wince either, so that's a good sign. Even if the guy's pain tolerance is fucking insane...
Tch, acting like some kid getting ready to go outside and play again. What a fucking cherub. When Yuji turns back to look at him, Bakugo's already passing by his shoulder to make for the door.] Urusei! You've been healing me for a while now! [So of course feeling better, dammit! He just has to deal with these fucking monsters and wrestle with the notion of getting a damn healing implant...] Let's fucking end this shit and get back to the dorm.
[Dismissive as he seems, Bakugo's intent is to stick by Yuji during the fight until the guy's able to see the medics proper.]
