▶ 001. TOUR KICK OFF. (INTRODUCTION)

With the holidays just around the corner, Neo Tokyo seems to thrum with a more hopeful, different kind of life than it’s seen in recent years. Food is a little more plenty, things are a little safer. It’s now been two years since LILITH and the Outsiders made their arrival in the world, and it shows. People are happier and safer, and there has been a distinct change. The impact Outsiders have had is palpable. You have done this, Outsiders. You have made the impact, and people will show their gratitude. Outsiders aren’t always easily found, given that they keep those secret identities, but outsiders will find that locals have been leaving small gifts at the entrance to LILITH's base for their favorite outsiders. Things like foods, little trinkets, meaningful cards, addressed to their code names, and left with heartfelt little annotations, thanking them for saving them. Most in Neo Tokyo recognize that outsiders have been doing a great deal of work, and the gifts keep coming. LILITH will deliver them under a large, decorated tree for outsiders, labeled by code name, so outsiders might want to check back often!

But an outsider’s work is never done. While everyone else is gearing up for the holidays and New Year's, LILITH has tasks for the outsiders. This is a global organization, after all, and things have been… good. Too good, perhaps? There’s a sense that something is coming, and that Outsiders will be needed, but more importantly... Commander Yamakawa seems to be seriously considering the future of LILITH, and the future of the Outsiders. She reaches out to the Outsiders via their implants early in the month:

“Angels of LILITH, your impact should not be downplayed. Every choice you all have made is the reason why we have been so successful against the Kaiju threat. We don’t want to lose momentum, and while you all should take time to enjoy the downtime while it lasts… there is more to be done, I’m afraid. The places you have been before have continued to contribute something to the cause, and we want to cement the resources before it’s too late. We may need a lot more of each of them in the coming days.”

What does she mean by that? Well, assignments will be given out to different locations for Outsiders. Visiting different old locations can yield new possibilities, and maybe help LILITH prepare for the new year!

▶ 002. THE NEON OASIS. (NEW VEGAS, USA)

Viva, New Vegas, Baby! The city is thrumming with light and life as always. It’s getting darker earlier, and the city bursts to life spectacularly in the evenings. Lights, excitement, digital drone displays and large holographic billboards that sell everything, from showgirls to performance-enhancing drugs, casinos, and fight nights. The outlandish casinos on the strip are ever-changing and ever-expanding, creating new sights and works of architectural wonder. One new hotel has been generating a great deal of excitement, promising up-close-and-personal encounters with kaiju – advertised as (mostly) safe, of course, but what’s life without a little danger? Commander Yamakawa is organizing the response, and any Outsiders who join him on this leg of the journey will find that they’ve not only gotten suites in the hotel, but themed suites. Many of which feature prominent kaiju, and some will even find some based on outsiders – particularly ones that garner a lot of attention from the public, have had heavy hits, or KOs...but really, it could be anybody. (Go wild!)

The lobby of the hotel advertises many attractions, including a kaiju “zoo” filled with many smaller kaiju like nihonzaru, timonsutas, and some that outsiders haven’t seen before – like the local Bigger-horn Sheep (not to be confused with Nevada’s state animal, the Bighorn Sheep) or the Helarctrocine, and other smaller kaiju found across what locals proudly call the “Wildest West”. There’s also a kaiju-themed casino, bar and restaurant – with recipes that looks suspiciously like they were influenced by a certain kaiju kafe back in LILITH headquarters. All of this seems above board, but there are a lot of people staying in the hotel – and those who go to the casino for any entertainment there will see that there’s also a lot of money exchanging hands – or wrists, as it were! They are rumbling about something happening a few nights from now. Something...big. The truly crafty or charismatic may be able to weed out that in a few nights, it’s fight night. Who’s fighting? That’s a bit more mysterious, but they encourage outsiders to stick around. “It’s gonna be big,” they promise.

On the last night, some high-profile executives arrive from… Neo Tokyo, of all places! Those who’ve been involved with some of the shadier elements in the city might even recognize a lackey or two that they’ve encountered in the past. It all speaks to something… big, like was promised. What, however, is still shrouded in mystery. That is, until the night of, when the basement arena (which is truly a massive arena underground) is opened to the public, and the main event is ready to begin. What is it? The fight of the millennia, apparently, and while this hasn’t been advertised, the night of, suddenly it’s clearly advertised – the Ozark Howler versus The Akumas.

At Commander Yamakawa’s urging, Outsiders are asked to watch and be ready. This is illegal, but is it illegal enough to chance another international incident? The opportunity presents itself as the fighters are introduced – the Ozark Howler, a large bestial kaiju that supposedly stalks the mountains. The Akumas...they’re clearly spliced gang members, each one looks...dangerous. One crackles with electricity on his skin, another with molten cracks opening their now scale-like flesh, and another with sharp looking scales, and their body starting to lengthen, almost snake-like. The fight is caged, but not sealed, and it looks dangerous. The referee is projected via drone, and as it nears the beast, it swats the drone away, agitated and straining against the locks holding it down.

The drone sent flying, and it hits the bell in a wild tailspin, and the beast's locks release. The fight starts, and...

And...

The cage starts to lift, leaving no barrier between the crowd and the fight. The Akumas don’t look surprised at all. In fact, they look ready for this, rolling their shoulders and cracking their knuckles. They take to the Howler, but lightning shoots off from one, another has a long tail that whips out, and another’s lava is starting to seep over the stage, and into the crowd. People are starting to panic, standing, trying to force their way out, abandoning the floor, but there’s not enough exits, and intervention is required. Will you help escort people out, or are you going to take to the floor, and help incapacitate the fighters and the kaiju both?

▶ 003. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE. (BUSAN, KOREA)

For some time, outsiders have been barred from entering Korea, and for reasons that are at least...sympathetic. The loss of so many people left the government somewhat tense, and nervous, and quite frankly? Hurt. Time, however, heals all wounds, and now that they have time to grieve, the government is opening themselves up to the Angels of LILITH once again. Although they promise that Outsiders won’t need to be doing much, and in fact, they should enjoy the sights and sounds of Busan while they are in town again.

Seok Dang is with the outsiders when they travel, and some will notice that while the man is generally jovial and in good humor on LILITH’s base, there’s something a bit more somber to the man, given that this is his first time back since the incident, he looks a bit like he’s just barely keeping his composure. Over the implants, outsiders will catch that he even sounds a little gruffer than usual; or more accurately, like he's trying not to sound choked up.

“Now don’t go causing too much trouble, alright? Let’s have a good time, and see me if you want to know the best places to eat!”

Outsiders are treated with respect, but a bit more formally than last time, and there’s still a slight chill from most locals as they explore the city. They won’t get treated poorly, but people are certainly nervous, and maybe still a little suspicious that things will go awry yet again. Though the city is electric and lit, there are still some districts in disrepair, and intrepid outsiders can learn from locals that a lot of mid-sized, local kaiju are encroaching on the rubble – including several Xiphosuransus – looking for food or, territorial fights, or otherwise. But the locals aren’t without their own resources, and getting a chance to deal with the problem on their own means that they’ve come up with a...unique way of handling the encroaching kaiju threat. Across several points are several speaker systems set up. Apparently, most of the kaiju that are making their way across some of the rubble are easily repelled by sound and light.

Outsiders interested in cleanup will be given an option to test out one of these speaker systems. They have sound boards, of course, and an array of sirens, calls, and other options. However, some outsiders will notice that there are other ways to deflect these kaiju, as some local bands use these sound systems as a way to both get in their practice and help the city! Music seems to be the most effective in getting them to move away, and outsiders are welcome to join in, either with the bands, or on their own to help repel the encroaching kaiju. Outsiders can also venture out to just fight them, if they want too. Messier, but just as good. After all, it’s a great way to build goodwill with the locals to help out!

Outsiders are also welcomed to enjoy some of the local concerts. Popular idols and indie groups can be found throughout the city performing at concerts that begin in the evening and go on until sunrise. The shows are full productions with flashing lights and firework shows. Concert goers can also collect lightsticks that come in various designs and colors. They're trendy but they can also be used to ward off weaker kaiju or signal for help in case of an emergency.

▶ 004. THE SEQUEL NO ONE WANTED. (BRASOV, TRANSYLVANIA)

Brasov has remained as isolated as ever. Most of the villagers were eliminated in the fallout of the Outsiders' actions around Halloween last year. The children in the village were taken, and are thriving in the orphanages in Neo Tokyo, and there hasn’t been much reason to return, now that the land is not quite as fertile as it had been when the Kaiju protected the land.

But one thing has still thrived, and a small group of LILITH regulars have been harvesting poppies for some time to help support LILITH’s needs, such as surgeries and other reasons for painkillers. That all has seemed to go well, and Outsiders are directed to Brasov to help with the transport and protection of the fairly large poppy crop from the year. While ready for processing, the staff hasn’t started to send it through, and LILITH and their staff are getting worried. Outsiders are asked to travel there, and help find out what caused the halt in materials. Dr. Spim is interested in developing new strains, and the doctor will come with the outsiders to assist with the transport, and to test the offerings for themselves.

Strangely enough, LILITH’s staff are nowhere to be found when the outsiders arrive through the teleporter. The village is still decimated after the destruction a year ago, and though nature has started to encroach on the ruins, it hasn’t gotten far. There are plenty of tents, but they look like they were abandoned within the past few weeks, other than the small house that’s been converted into a communications center, where eagle-eyed Outsiders will be able to notice that it’s been traversed recently.

The only other structure in the area is...the castle. Looming in the distance, and the source of strife for many just over a year ago. Outsiders with tracking abilities can locate signs of travel from the village to the castle, and they are fresh signs. Following the trail, Outsiders will find a trail of mud and...blood leading into the castle. Searching deeper inside feels a bit like deja vu, some of the bodies from their last visit are still there, though rotting. The entire location smells like rot, death, and, predictably, blood. There’s still so much blood. Outsiders will need to scour the castle, trying to find the location of the missing staff and harvest, but outsiders will find that the castle is peppered with small rituals around the castle. Some are occupied, some already hold the signs of a successful sacrifice.

“You’ve found what? Signs of sacrifice? Certainly they couldn’t be… No, no that must be it. You have to find them! They might be trying to revive the Pricolii! Quickly, find the rituals and stop them, they’re trying to gather enough energy to bring it back!”

Outsiders will find that some rituals are currently ongoing, and much of LILITH’s staff has been sacrificed or...tortured into participating, much like the outsiders before them, the cult has not changed tactics...much. Although without the Forest Lord, they’ve become slow and… human. Outsiders need to stop the rituals, and fast, because deep in the basement, something is… stirring. The longer they wait, the closer it gets, and the stronger the rift energy becomes. Quickly, Outsiders! They must be stopped!

▶ 005. TRADITIONAL RESTORATION. (KYOTO, JAPAN)

For those who want to stay closer to home, an option is also provided. From LILITH's main base in Shinjuku, the Outsiders can provide support to those abroad. They will be able to work with LILITH's other agents to provide and collect information, send supplies, and coordinate the various teams around the world. If necessary, they can also serve as back-up units to provide relief to the other teams.

However, there is still work to be done within the country, too. It's been nearly two years since Kyoto's base was restored and citizens began to return to the city. The population is small but steadily growing as the area becomes more stable. What was once a city that consisted mostly of LILITH agents and researchers is now a small city where civilians can also call home.

Kyoto has always been famous for its shrines and temples, and with the New Year approaching, the locals want to restore many of them to their old glory. For the most part, they have been able to fix up the ones within the city limits where it is much safer. However, some of the shrines in the outskirts are more precarious. These are the locations they ask the Outsiders to help secure and restore.

In particular, they are asked to take back the once prestigious Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple. Located in the outskirts of Kyoto, these sacred locations have been completely overrun by Nihonzaru, Marionants, and yama-kujira. Outsiders will have to clear these areas of kaiju while maintaining the integrity of the historic properties. Be careful not to destroy the buildings or gates.

As the perimeter is secured, some families will begin to venture into these areas. This will result in rest areas being set up for the Outsiders. These families take back old inns and tea houses. These accommodations are humble. They are run down, drafty, and have limited amenities but they offer everything they can to try and give the Outsiders shelter and a place to rest on their assignment. It isn't all bad, though. The traditional meals are simple but delicious and while the Outsiders do the fighting, the locals manage to clean up some of the old hot springs which they are proud to show off to guests.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Happy December, Outsiders! This year, Outsiders are invited to take a trip down memory lane... or experience something new. Just because it's the holidays doesn't mean everyone is taking it off, and some groups are causing as much trouble as ever.

We hope you enjoy our little trip through Synflux's past, and stay tuned for part two mid-month.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. TOUR KICKOFF: Outsiders will find that everyone in Neo Tokyo is getting ready for the holidays, and fans are leaving small gifts near LILITH’s base for their favorite outsiders. Yamakawa is asking outsiders to help by traveling to prior locations to help out with some issues that are arising.
2. THE NEON OASIS First stop on our tour is New Vegas, NV! Outsiders are treated to a luxurious stay in a Kaiju-themed hotel and casino on the strip. Some may even find rooms themed around outsiders. There is a kaiju zoo, a casino, restaurant, and bar; and the entire stay culminates in a dangerous fight between some kaiju-spliced fight team and a large kaiju. Outsiders will need to help out, or help evacuate the arena!
3. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE: Next is Busan, South Korea. The borders are now open, and South Korea seems poised to welcome Outsiders back. Seok Dang travels with the outsiders, and he seems to be grateful to be home. In the absence of outsiders, locals have taken to belting it out with music and sound experimentation to drive Kaiju away, and it seems to be working! Outsiders are welcome to come try and join in.
4. THE SEQUEL NO ONE WANTED: Last on our tour is Brasov, Transylvania. Some staff have held back to keep growing the materials necessary for the painkillers LILITH uses, but after some radio silence, Outsiders have been sent to check out what’s going on. Looking in, it’s apparent that something is very, very wrong. Some cultists snuck away after the attacks, and have been using LILITH’s scientists as sacrifices to try and bring back their Forest Lord. Outsiders need to stop them pronto, before we have another Vampire Invasion on our hands!
5. TRADITIONAL RESTORATION: For those who choose to stay in Japan, they can provide assistance from Neo Tokyo or head out to Kyoto to help with restoration efforts. The locals ask the Outsiders to help take back the city outskirts. Fight kaiju while protecting the historical landmarks. Locals will show gratitude by inviting them to their reclaimed inns, shops, and even hot springs.

▶ 001. WINNER'S CIRCLE.

The return to Neo Tokyo comes with an odd sense of relief that LILITH’s angels are back to normal, but with trepidation as well. With the new danger of splicing rumbling throughout Neo-Tokyo, there is a sense that Outsiders will be busy for weeks to come on any number of missions as LILITH works to clamp down on any dangers to the populace at large. From their base, they can do little more than send Outsiders to deal with it, but the effect has been large. The rumbles and questions about these Angels, and there’s been more talk than usual about where Outsiders could have come from.

But that’s all outside of LILITH’s base. It’s fall, so LILITH’s cafeteria is thrumming with excitement as November rolls around, it's late in the harvest season, and although food can be scarce, LILITH wants everyone to partake in a little fall cheer. Everything from pumpkin croquettes to matsutakes to saury is on display. Local fall delicacies are found all over the base, and if you have reason to visit Dr. Spim, he'll have a bowl of ginnan nuts for outsiders to try.

And, of course, there’s always celebrations to be had for the Outsiders returning victorious!

GOOD JOB:
FORGERY & MONSTER (K.O.)
BLACK MIST (600) & TWISTERIA (550)

There’s always a rush of excitement as new products or trends hit the shelves and the streets after a recent kaiju defeat, and with another one defeated, the citizens are excited to follow the trends of their favorite Outsiders!

Young folks are always excited to promise the world to their young lovers, and what better way to show your affection with gifts? Promises of future marriage among teenagers and young adults alike has shifted recently to include… swords, of all shapes and sizes. Katanas, Naginatas, even Kamas and Tachis. Never let it be said that a trend can’t be capitalized on to its fullest extent. The most curious facet about them, is that they all have keepsakes hidden in the handle, such as promise rings, gemstones, or other trinkets and treasures that are significant to their young love. Most have a compartment hidden in there, and it’s a game for young lovers to try to guess what their love hid in the handle, but promise not to peek until their wedding day. The compartments are sealed, and one truly won’t know precisely how thoughtful their partner is, until they open it. Or they break up, and look anyway. It’s hard resisting the temptation, but it’s already becoming a sign of commitment (in the last few weeks) to resist the urge to open it up and look inside.

Pets aren’t always the easiest to find among the majority of Neo Tokyo’s citizens, but humans always want to have a little creature to take care of. That’s why local developers are always building and improving by making more and more advanced mechanical pets, and if there’s one thing these manufacturer’s know, it’s how to make a trend. After the most recent kaiju battle, one company in particular – SoftSquares – has made an interesting new mechanical pet, and they come in sets of 3, of all things! The instructions always say that pets shouldn’t be adopted alone, even mechanical ones, and these seem to need to come in sets of three. The label promises that they are parts of an even greater whole, but nobody has been able to figure out what that means, yet.

The more fashion conscious of denizens have taken to a new trend: a good number of the local youth have taken to wearing contacts or utilizing style chips that make their eyes spiral and sparkle with a vivid rainbow of hues across the spectrum from deepest violet to vivid scarlet. It’s showing up on advertisements, on models as they show off their latest trends, and even some of the teens in harajuku are showing them off. They aren’t static, either; they ebb and flow, and bloom with color. These “Mystique Eyes” contacts are showing up everywhere, and for good reason! Who could resist such a sight?

▶ 002. WE'RE A CULTURAL BUNCH HERE.

As the year marches on, the weather continues to get cooler in Neo Tokyo. While the city isn't known for nature, locals head to parks to view the changing leaves, and a few brave souls might venture outside the city to see more spectacular fall views. Even in the bustling neon streets of Neo Tokyo, it's nice to stop and appreciate smaller things in life.

The cultural festivities from earlier in the month are still continuing. Everyone can still try their hand at activities like tea ceremony, flower arranging, and martial arts but it seems that the number of exhibitions is increasing. Different districts across the city host festivals celebrating local culture with food, dance, and other activities. In particular, those who come from displaced communities from past kaiju attacks use the opportunity to share their traditions and even some of their community memories. Some neighborhood centers come together for physical booths, but more interestingly…

The game centers in Neo Tokyo collaborate with these communities to let them create virtual worlds based on research and memories. Instead of the fright fests from Halloween, users can visit various prefectures across Japan and other countries from around the world that were previously destroyed and may no longer be accessible. These experiences can be private or public depending on user settings. Unfortunately, it's easy to miss the privacy settings so there's a chance a private virtual experience might end up being available to the public if you aren't careful. The individuals running their own virtual worlds are always happy to tell you about their culture, their homes, and Outsiders who may recognize the locations bring a tear to their eye, when talking about their homes. Even if they are still around, things are simply not like they used to be, before the kaiju appeared, and a small picture into the world that was before is… much different than it is now. There was more of…everything. More technology, people, food, and even excitement. Getting in on the fun will certainly pique the interests of the population about LILITH, and may see dividends to bringing more locals into working with them, in time.

On LILITH's base in Shinjuku, local agents and Outsiders are encouraged to have a fun culture exchange among themselves, too! LILITH is a diverse group, and on base, there are fliers for using the Library and Greenhouse, as well as the Simulation Rooms for their own cultural exchange. If Outsiders want to, they can grab a table and present whatever they want. Maybe you want to hold a small impromptu concert, or a little art show. How about telling stories from your homeland? Maybe there is a game someone knows that’s popular. Go wild! Use the Simulation Rooms or the Dataverse if it’s more convenient in the moment. To help them, LILITH will give them a small allowance to buy what they need for their booths, or free use of the Simulation Room to make virtual versions of their worlds. Outsiders are welcome to give virtual tours, talk about where they came from, and feel… a little homesick, if they wish. Maybe even serve some food and refreshments, if you can find the right ingredients. There’s no better way to bond with your allies than learn a little bit more about where they came from. Maybe you’ll find something in common with each others, play a game, or even find a new favorite food!

▶ 003. SPLICING TAKES A TURN.

LILITH’s efforts earlier this month have started to pay dividends, but capitalism continues on, as the splicing seems to continue to increase within Neo-Tokyo. After all, there’s something alluring about becoming better, and what’s the reason why it can’t be biological instead of mechanical. Sure, someone might have a mechanical eye, but don’t owl eyes look so much more fetching? Doesn’t a prehensile tail that can turn into a whip have more advantages than an arm? And everyone loves to be a little bit furrier, especially when they love animals so much. Even some of LILITH’s scientists have been sporting signs that they’ve undergone surgery, try as they may to hide it. The good Dr. Spim will even mention that they’re interested in learning more, but that they need to approach it carefully. Outsiders are valuable resources, after all, and the idea of losing them to a bad splicing makes them cautious.

But for all that it is romantic and fetching, there are problems as well. These sorts of surgeries are starting to crop up alongside more deaths. Surgeries gone bad, patients much too young going under the knife, and unlicensed surgeons are just some of the factors. Not only that, but some enterprising folk in the black market are trying something different: It’s not just normal animals on the menu, but even kaiju as well. Who wouldn’t want to have the ears of a Kabus, for example, or the crest of an Imugi?

These splices are more difficult to pick out, but with it come more serious effects. With Kaiju DNA comes kaiju-adjacent abilities, and they are difficult to control. A Gigakame-spliced local might be great to talk to if you like turtles, with a new shell forming on their back, but the apartment melting down from the magma boiling under their skin is not. The gang that all get Vescidae spliced may look cool with their yellow and black stripes, and the way that they all seem to almost communicate silently with motion alone, but the way their hideout is slowly seeming to become covered in paper and dangerous to walk near is causing problems to local businesses.

The problems are increasing faster than LILITH can handle them, and the answer is clear: these individuals must be taken in for both study, and to see if they can separate the DNA from the individual. Kaiju DNA is far too dangerous, especially when it’s given out with apparent wild abandon all over the city. Outsiders will be informed that LILITH wants to help these individuals get back to rights, but the more information they gather, the more useful it may be for future rewards or benefits, as well. They are interested in figuring out the how, and are working diligently to figuring out how the splicing actually works. They’ll need to collect both surgeons and spliced locals, and bring them back to base.

(For the most part, if you play with this prompt, please feel free to use the beastiary and make up splicing combinations with powers, and feel free to make up minor kaiju of your own! If the damage is greater than a city block, just feel free to check in with us in the Questions thread below. Otherwise, go wild!)

▶ 004. OUTSIDER AID IN NEO TOKYO.

It’s starting to get quite cold in the city, but that never stopped anyone from shopping, meandering, or getting up to trouble. People can be seen walking the streets with warm yakiimo or kuri-manju in their hands from local vendors. It is getting darker sooner, but the bright lights make sure that the city continues to thrive, and also casts deep shadows where danger can lurk. There's always a need for help, and with no end to the trouble that crops up, people are always looking for that extra hand, and Outsiders have proven themselves far more capable than most.
  • With the holidays starting to ramp up, an old curiosity has come with it. Outsiders who were here around this time last year will remember some subliminal messaging thrumming through the city, and tracking them down proved difficult. It's surfaced yet again, and this time, encouraging locals and Outsiders alike to purchase anything from useless junk to high-priced luxury items like vehicles and overpriced apartments. The source of it all seems to be a collection of streamers who pump out everything from music to talk radio 24/7. Taking them out will save the wallets of both the locals, and Outsiders, if you can resist the siren call of capitalism.
  • On some local forums, a frantic and anemic-looking man is looking for aid. Outsiders who are interested in helping out are given contact information, and sent on a mission to break into a corporate facility deep in the guts of the business district. He asks you to steal a blood sample they obtained of his spouse, who had previously agreed to splicing with an unknown Kaiju. He fears that the company will take them into custody once they determine what the kaiju is that they are spliced with. All he will say is that their hungers are unusual, but that they have managed to solve it together. The problem is that the company who tricked them into the blood sample may use it for more nefarious purposes, such as spreading this to others. (If pressed, he will reveal that they drink blood now, but he has been a very willing bloodbag.)
  • A few small businesses have started reporting that their accounts are lower than they should be, and it seems concentrated on a specific area of the city. Though they have been doing good business lately, it seems like for every dollar spent, they’re seeing a fraction shaved off, and it’s starting to add up. Outsiders can hear complaints about this throughout the city, or it can be affecting their business as well. What ends up being the culprit is a small device attached to their payment processor, and it seems to have also been attached to businesses throughout the area. Gathering enough of these devices may lead them to the source, and LILITH can help them determine the manufacturer if they wish to start digging through this mystery.
Generally, Outsiders can agree to help out, and work together to help solve problems for the locals. If you have questions, or want to let us know the results, please use the questions thread to let us know how it goes. This can help us direct future leads for Outsiders as well, and build on future quests.

▶ 001. THIS WAS A FAIRYTALE.

The Outsiders come to Gwen with their proposal, and it appears simple. A group of LILITH operatives go ahead and scout around the Enchanted Forest to attempt to discover more about the kaiju, especially since they seem to be limited on information. While Gwen seems particularly agitated by being forced to wait, she allows the Outsiders their time to go and find as much information as they’re able to divine.

For Outsiders that go, a trail leads them through winding trees and the undergrowth, well-walked pathways that break into various clearings. There are signs of campfires, of civilization, and of people staying here in the wilderness - these may be the rebels that Gwen had spent so long lamenting over. Anyone skilled at tracking or survival might follow the trail, finding a deep cave in the midst of the forest.

Exploring the cave will reveal a community that had been existing practically under their noses. There are tents, clothes littering the ground, fires, even what seems like storage boxes and children’s treasures: various wooden and hand carved animals, including large lions. What is most noticeable is the lack of people; there are some that are around, haunting the cave and peering out at the scouting team as they approach, but they are not armed and do not seem to want to attack any of the party.

They are, at least, willing to answer questions, and they share the following information: they had seen the Outsiders in the castle outskirts and flying overhead, had seen them venturing outside of Windsor, and had come to the conclusion their time was running short. The kaiju left, with what rebels remained, and decided to bring the confrontation to Gwen, for fear of losing more of their own people to the strange affliction that has been harming them for decades.

Yes, they confirm when asked: they have been victim to it as well, and suffering from it too long can lead to transformations that are difficult to undo. The only saving grace has been their leader, Eadmund, who has the power to counterattack what has happened - but he has gone to fight, too.

The scouting party may wish to rush back to Windsor Castle before it is too late.

▶ 002. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.

Back in Windsor, with some of the Outsiders left behind, things are beginning to get more tense. Gwen and her soldiers are gearing up, preparing their weapons and whispering tactics to one another. Clearly, many of them are not impressed with this particular plan. It is difficult to speak to anyone, or to get them to talk to an Outsider, but the few whispers here and there show that they dislike the Outsider's plan, are frustrated with Gwen for allowing it, and want the fight to start as soon as possible; they've even taken swords from the Garrison.

Everything remains tense as they wait for the scouts to return. This is an ample opportunity for the Outsiders to make their own preparations as they wait for their friends to come back, and even to try and delay and distract Gwen's soldiers from their own. Soon, the scouts return. There’s a brief span when they can report their findings to their fellow operatives, but within a few hours the atmosphere shifts, Gwen marching to the gates. Outside the castle walls, an echoing roar shakes the foundations.

Due to the Outsiders deciding to scout and not aid in Gwen's preparations or advising on how to fight the kaiju, the soldiers inside the castle are more on edge and afraid. They are less prepared, their weapons not designed to target the kaiju's weakness, and Gwen seems more desperate. Their outlook is gloomy at best and murderous at worst.

At first, the rebels outside the castle walls do not look remotely intimidating. They're small, but there's an otherworldly aura to them, a light in their eyes that makes them seem stronger, bigger than they would otherwise. Behind them, head tilted back into a roar, is the kaiju, a blue, pastel shard stuck in his back.

Gwen's voice calls out across the battlefield: "You will find no glory here!" Her inability to be more prepared makes her voice shake: she and her men do not know how to use the Outsiders to their advantage, and it shows.

The lion speaks, his voice a low, soft rumble; it may even sound familiar to some Outsiders. It fills the silence, seeming to slip into the ears of anyone listening: "I do not come here to harm you, Gwenllian. I have come to save them." Around him, the 'rebels' cheer, raising their blades in the air.

Gwen's face twists, and she turns to her own people, whispering a few, sharp words. There begins a change in her followers: their eyes are taking on an odd sheen, and their bodies have begun to twitch, and jerk, and... Transform?

Gwen's soldiers begin to grow additional limbs, fur, scales, fangs, claws - a horrifying mixture of human and animal, or, worse, human and kaiju. Her closest generals transform first: one woman becomes a twisted bird creature, another a monstrous badger, and a third a feral, loyal hound. They leap into battle, racing towards the rebels: the Outsiders have a choice.

They are welcome to run into the battle and stop these strange, broken monsters from attacking rebel humans.

▶ 003. A ROAR-SOME BATTLE.

No matter what the Outsiders choose, Gwenllian leaps into the fray. What is immediately clear is the rebels are not attacking to kill. They also seem strangely resistant to the creatures that Gwen has made with her powers. It does not seem to have stolen their senses in the way that other kaiju have done in the past; it feels more like a warm embrace, the sensation of home and warmth.

Gwen's power surges, grows, and seems to flow over the battlefield, as a siren song. Outsiders may be influenced by the flood of her power, and might find their bodies beginning to shift: they may grow wings, claws, teeth, fur, scales or various other monster parts. They may even find their transformation becoming more complete, almost entirely monstrous, mirroring the fate of the generals... Or they may be able to ignore the call. Outsiders who had fallen prey to the memory manipulation are more easily prone to the changes, but can still resist the transformation.

The fight continues, with rebels attempting to knock out or disarm anyone coming their way. They seem almost gentler with the Outsiders, even the monstrous ones, and can be heard making promises to them: "We will protect you", "you will be safe, just let us help", and "Eadmund will free you all".

Throughout the fight, various Outsiders speak with Eadmund and damage him, and it seems as though the emotional impact is greater than the physical one. He keeps pushing through the fray, attempting to get closer to his bounty, when Muramasa strikes out at him with fire, knocking him to his back. Two hands work together to draw the relic from his back, pulling it free - baring it to the world. It is not a sword, but a large horn, embedded within his spine for decades.

As soon as the relic is drawn, Gwen howls. It is a horrifying sound, and her human shape unfolds itself, a bright light swelling, growing larger and larger, before her true form is revealed to all: a unicorn, bereft of her horn, bleeding from the wound on her head. The lion stands taller now, power echoing around him; the rebels sudden appear braver as his own power rockets through them. He goes for Gwen's neck, large jaw sinking into her as a thought runs through the minds of anyone nearby: "I will save you from yourself, my dearest friend."

▶ 004. ANOTHER SLEEPLESS KNIGHT.

Gwen fights Eadmund, and Outsiders will find their own fights ebbing and flowing. As Gwen gets the upper hand, her men grow stronger, turning on not just the rebels but the Outsiders, too. They are particularly violent with any Outsider who did not suffer the strange memory effects; it seems these grow stronger and weaker with Gwen, too.

The removal of the relic from Eadmund's back seems to have made him stronger, even with the emotional and physical damage the attacks from the Outsiders have left him with. Eventually, he seems to overcome the unicorn, smothered in her blood and drowning in her wails of anguish. There's a bright flash of light, and the two of them, Gwen and Eadmund both, seem to... Disappear?

The problem of the horrific monsters still remain, however, despite the disappearance of Gwen and Eadmund, and Outsiders are tasked by the rebels with rounding them up and trapping them in the prisons below Windsor castle. They ask that the Outsiders not kill the beasts, because they are certain of a cure, but accidents can happen, right?

Ripples of rumour spread throughout the castle about the fate of Gwenllian and Eadmund, but the focus is on the recovery efforts. There are various things that Outsiders can do to help: recover the wounded, capture the remaining monsters, repair some of the damaged walls, make meals, and guide the families of the rebels back to the castle from their caves. There's no shortage of aid required.

Finally, a large campfire is built, and there is a mixture of emotions in the people of Windsor, civilians and rebels both. There is joy at their endless fight finally being over, whilst great mourning for the loss of two heroes - Gwenllian the Unicorn, who had defended Windsor for decades, and Eadmund the Lion, who had fought to free her from whatever poisoned her mind. Speaking to civilians gives various viewpoints: some think Gwen was evil, others misguided, while some imagine Eadmund to be some kind of nightmarish fairytale that is told to children to get them to behave.

No matter the view, there is relief: for now, there is a reprieve.

▶ 005. THE LAST UNICORN.

The next morning, Outsiders are awoken by the arrival of a familiar face: Alex, assistant to Dr Spim. Something had been interfering with LILITH's communication since their arrival in Windsor, but with it now somehow dealt with she has been able to bring something: a cure for the monster transformations and the memory effects.

Typically, severe cases of Rift corruption are considered incurable. However, after a certain event earlier in the year, they were able to study a group of corrupted Outsiders that made an unprecedented full recovery. Additionally, thanks to a certain Outsider volunteering for additional testing and experiments, LILITH has been able to use her blood to create an antidote for significant Rift effects! They believe it can also be used to help increase resistance against more kaiju-related powers. Experiments and studies have been promising and now seems as good a time as ever for human testing!

Something else remarkable happens around mid-day. The door to Gwen's room opens, and there's a stampede of people running, whispering she's alive, he's alive, how is this possible, what is happening. Outsiders who walk up to follow the gossip chain will find a unicorn foal, horn intact, curled up with an adolescent lion, their faces pressed together as they rest and recover from a centuries long conflict.

It's not until dusk that the lion wakes up, and Eadmund sits by the great bonfire, greeting old friends and new. As he walks through the castle, something strange happens. Many of the various animals around the castle begin to twist and transform - horses, corgi, badgers, foxes, even the birds, reshaping into a human form. Some seem caught in-between, left with odd wings, dog ears or tails, and others don't turn back at all but seem to be given a human voice once more. Eadmund is apologetic: his strength isn't quite what it used to be, yet, and Gwenllian is too tired to help.

THE TALE OF THE LAST UNICORN.
In the past, a herd of unicorns roamed the forests, travelling around England and bringing the spring with them as they moved. In tune with the world, they encouraged the growth of plants, flowers and vegetation, keeping the country filled with greenery even as technology grew and became more prominent. Alongside them walked a great beast, Eadmund, protective and gentle despite his stature and his roar, who gave strength to those who would rise up and defend the world against its ills, a lion protecting his pride with all that he had.

Then the climate changed. Then the world shifted. Nature suffered, and with it so did the unicorns.

In Britain, the requirement for energy and power led to a second Industrial Revolution overtaking the nation, creating new factories and relying more on age-old technologies to ensure the country survived. The side effects were not immediate, but catastrophic when they came: the reliance on coal, oil, steam and a covert use of rift energy to power machinery led to the landscape twisting into something desolate. Earthquakes became more common, and lush farmland became closer to swamp and quagmires.

Thus, the unicorns returned. They offered aid, tried to help repair the damage done to nature, and offered their powers to soothe the hurts of the humans they loved so dearly. Alongside them was their dearest friend, their lion protector, who imbued the humans with strength and courage to fight against the threat of new beasts, new kaiju who walked the land as if it was theirs to claim. Together, they were formidable: warrior and healer, a pair difficult to defeat.

Humans are greedy, however, and often not content with the gifts they are given. A few saw the damage the rifts had done to their homes, to their friends, and remembered old stories of the power of a unicorn: their horn, their mane, their blood can heal, can soothe, can protect. Slowly, enough that it was hard to note at first, they began to trim the herd, hunting the smallest and the weakest, the youngest, until there were too few unicorns left to bring any hope to the world.

Soon, there remained none but one unicorn: Gwenllian, still young, fierce in her rage and her disgust at humanity.

They are evil, she argued, her hurt and anger overtaking her. There is no difference between them and the beasts.

They do not understand, Eadmund responded, bowing low to comfort her, maw against her neck. Let us help them to know. We can show them something better, help them to understand. We can show them their courage once more, the two of us together. Their intentions were not evil, but the results were. He remained hopeful in his grief, shouldering the weight of being last of their kind. In the depth of his heart, he loved her, and wanted to see joy return to her eyes.

I will show them understanding. Harsh, and cruel. Gwenllian, in her grief, did not wish for anything better. She had seen the horns and hair of her kin ground and used, she had witnessed their blood being harvested, and she was unable to reconcile her anger with her knowledge that it was not all the humans: desperation makes monsters, after all, and that is what she became.

When she rose up to fight the humans, they responded swiftly, and with a strength she did not expect. The source she knew too well, for how often had her dear friend given her strength and courage with his power, lifted her heart with his boasts of victory? To see it used against her broke her, and so she turned on Eadmund, and their fight was as violent as her hurt and her rage: the aftermath as deadly as what was wrought upon the earth.

She did not know that Eadmund was as much a victim as she, his power abused and manipulated, the humans taking what they could from him and using it to harm the only creature he had ever loved.

They fought, friend against friend. Gwenllian lost her horn, embedded in her dear friend’s spine. Eadmund lost his future, cursed to live an endless fight, reviving each time his life was taken. Until Gwenllian’s vengeance was complete, there was no hope in his future.

As the years passed, people began to forget the origins of the disaster, what had happened to the unicorns, and the strength of their protector, a great lion that lingered only in dreams, doing what he could to save those that remained. In turn, humanity turned their faith to Gwenllian, titling herself with the moniker of “Gwen”, a hero of their time with one mission: to rid the world of the kaiju causing such danger and damage.

The more faith they had in her, the worse the world around her became. Those of the highest faith found themselves changing, twisting their limbs into something more monstrous, grief and anger fuelling her: humans have monstrous hearts, so their bodies should match it. Around the castle she called home, the human-kaiju roamed, feeding her power and her madness, a reminder of her true purpose.

Their battle continued for centuries, until news of the successes of LILITH reached Gwenllian, and she hatched a new plan: use the humans to take her final vengeance and spread her transformations to the rest of the world. The only thing standing between her and victory was the remains of her heart: Eadmund who, in all the years of fighting, had not given up on her, and whose power she, too, manipulated to control the guests to her land, to twist their memories and make them easier to shape.

Now he offers the Outsiders this tale, and begs them to help. Help save the friend he still loves with all his heart, and in turn help to save all those who have fallen victim to her strength, her power, her manipulations. Together, they can return hope to their realm, and bring a brighter future to those who remain.

Tired, he asks the Outsiders this: please forgive her, and give her time. She has done such cruel things, but her heart was taken, and she had nothing left.

All that is left is for the Outsiders to gather themselves, ensure their friends are safe, cured and healthy, and begin to prepare for the journey home. It seems that there might be a happy ending to this story.

TRAVEL LOG #7
CONTENT WARNINGS: memory manipulation, nausea, headaches, references to hunting

▶ 001. IT’S (NOT) LONDON, BABY.

As the last dregs of summer fade into the beginning of true Fall in Neo Tokyo, Outsiders wake up to the sound of sirens blaring, the call coming through their implants - there's no time for relaxation, not when the world still needs to be saved. As soon as everyone has gathered for the debriefing, Yamakawa explains their next destination: a request for aid has been sent by a civilian militia group in Windsor, England, and it's a desperate plea for support for an ongoing kaiju crisis.

While LILITH doesn't have a branch in the area, they're able to work with their contact to ensure that a data portal is set up for the easy transportation of Outsiders from the main base. Travelling feels a little bit easier compared to before, but the common side effects still remain - a little nausea, some headaches, dizziness and some minor glitching. It seems as if caffeine is a solution, and upon arrival, Outsiders are offered a cup of tea to get them settled.

Weirdly, unlike previous teleportation, physical touch seems to make the symptoms worse, rather than better. Anyone attempting the usual form of intimacy will find that being close to people, especially those they’re most comfortable with, will feel strangely awkward, leaving them with an uneasy sensation and the urge to take a step back.

As this is another warp rather than air travel, Outsiders will be asked to bring only what they deem necessary on this journey. Yamakawa reminds the Outsiders that, once they arrive, further supplies will be sent; both those that the outsiders request, and additional medical supplies for the militia in England to support them in their ongoing quest.

Everyone will be given the standard 24 hours to pack and prepare for departure. Once the time is up, Outsiders are transported to the arrival point... In Windsor Castle.

▶ 002. AN OUTSIDER WALKS INTO A CASTLE.

Upon arriving in the bailey of the castle, a beautiful woman who introduces herself as Gwen approaches. She welcomes the Outsiders to her base of operations, promising to provide beds and food for everyone. She’s quick to give an overview of why they’ve been summoned to the castle and what the problem is: they’re a militia group who are fighting against a large kaiju that is threatening the remains of the civilian population of the United Kingdom. They need help from the Outsiders to put the kaiju (and the rebels that are supporting it) down so that peace can continue. With how few people they have capable of fighting, they turned to LILITH in desperation.

As the Outsiders are directed to one of the wings of the castle to settle in, some might notice something… Off. While all the Outsiders who had agreed to go to the mission are present and accounted for, some members of their group are acting a little odd. When spoken to, they behave the same in terms of personality, but some of the things they’re saying are strange, or don’t sound right…

Some Outsiders have come to believe that they have always lived in Neo Tokyo, and don’t remember any other life. They’re convinced that this is the truth, and any attempt to dissuade them is met with resistance, both of the Outsiders feeling nauseated, with the risk of migraines developing. It doesn’t seem as if anything works to break this strange sickness, no matter what is attempted.

That might be a problem to deal with later.

Once bunks have been agreed on (and they will need to share rooms), Outsiders are given free rein to explore Windsor Castle. Gwen - and her generals, a group of women who can often be found around her, peering over maps, reports and other paperwork, giving advice and arguing about the best course of action - tell Outsiders that it would be best to stay within the castle walls, due to the threats of smaller kaiju outside the base. They do ask that, if they have spare time, that they help the people around the castle as much as they can, as there’s a lot of upkeep to do, and they’re running low on people thanks to their failed missions.

The castle is large, and beautifully decorated with medieval tapestries that have clung to their existence despite the impact of time. There are various locations of interest that the Outsiders are welcome to nose their way around: a library, filled with hundreds of books; the stable, where various horses of different kinds can be found (and ridden!); the outskirts around the bailey, with various small dogs; the feasting hall, where meals are served (mostly farm grown foods, and very limited meats) and, finally, the garrison (which, at the moment, only the non-afflicted Outsiders are permitted into, for ‘the safety of the others), with medieval weaponry on the walls.

▶ 003. IT HAS A GREAT KNIGHT-LIFE.

As the Outsiders settle in, the influence of the strange memory manipulation becomes stronger. Outsiders who are convinced they’ve been in this world their entire lives may grow more determined about it, and find strength in talking about their strange new memories. Anyone attempting to convince them otherwise will likely find themselves ostracised and left to the generous mercy of the civilians around the castle. Either way, both sets of Outsiders are generally welcomed around the castle.

The accommodation is good, but there are a few minor issues. Some of the dishes the Outsiders are served taste a little off (perhaps the lack of spice?) and locals urge their guests to stay away from some areas of the castle. If they do decide to go there despite the warnings, there doesn’t seem to be anything amiss. Maybe it’s a British thing?

There are a huge amount of things that need doing around the castle, and the native population are more than happy to encourage the Outsiders to take part and help them with what little resources they have remaining. If Outsiders volunteer to help, they’re informed about the many odd jobs that need doing around the castle and how they can support the locals:

OPERATION: CAN WE FIX IT?
  • Outsiders are tasked with helping to repair and, in some cases, reinforce the wall surrounding the castle and the bailey.
  • It’s clearly been damaged from kaiju attacks, and some areas are more damaged than others.
  • There are limited amounts of brick, so there may be a need to go out on a reconnaissance mission to gather more supplies.
  • Outsiders will be rewarded with carved items from the civilians - dogs, horses, dragons, and lions.
  • OPERATION: WE’RE GOING ON A KAIJU HUNT.
  • Outsiders are asked to go out in small groups to deal with the small, minor kaiju that have been threatening the castle.
  • The threat is a mixture of various wild kaiju, including vicious wild deer, boar, foxes and badgers. Some are more dangerous than others, and most attack on sight.
  • Outsiders will be rewarded with small gifts from the civilians - gloves with sheep wool interiors, large cotton blankets and, if they bring back their kills, fresh kaiju meat meals.
  • OPERATION: CLAYSON’S FARM.
  • Outsiders are asked to help the castle farmers for the upcoming months, both the livestock and the crops themselves.
  • The calves will need to be weaned (which might include chasing them around a field), wool from ewes clipped and harvesting the winter wheat, potato and sugar beet before planting the new crop.
  • Outsiders will be rewarded with small gifts from the farmers - bouquets of dried flowers, their first choice of the harvested crops, bottles of homemade cider, and even naming some of the livestock after the most helpful.
  • OPERATION: THE GRAVEYARD SHIFT (AU’D CHARACTERS ONLY).
  • Outsiders are asked to tend to a graveyard deep in the back area of the castle, surrounded by forests.
  • They will need to clean the graves, tidy up anything that has been left behind, check the records are accurate and pay their respects.
  • Outsiders will be rewarded with a broach in a strange horse shape from Gwen herself, who says it will permit them into some of the closed off areas of the castle. This includes the ‘spa’ (where the water is always cold); the ballroom (where the curtains are too heavy to move, so it’s always dark) and a special dining hall (which none of the cooking staff seem to know exists).
  • OPERATION: A PROPER GANDER (NON-AU’D CHARACTERS ONLY).
  • Outsiders are asked to deal with the rebel propaganda that’s popped up around the castle.
  • They will need to clean the graffiti, remove posters, try and track down where they’re getting in and ensure none remains.
  • Outsiders will be rewarded with Turkish Delight candies (hand-delivered by Gwen, as it’s her own personal recipe), nightly offers of hot chocolate and their choice of art supplies so they can add their own murals to the castle (once approved by the generals, of course).

  • There are dozens of other odd jobs that need done, too, and Outsiders can find themselves tasked with almost any minor task that they can imagine - from novice carpentry, to cleaning, to taking care of the corgi population to even exercising the horses. There are no limits to how helpful the Outsiders can be to their temporary home.

Throughout this time, Gwen and her generals are preparing for the upcoming mission and sharing briefs with the Outsiders as they gear up: there’s been a trace of the beast somewhere near Egham, ironically called the “Enchanted Forest”. If the Outsiders attempt to probe Gwen or question her for specifics, she’ll shrug them off, for now; there simply isn’t enough time to answer everyone personally, and she’s incredibly busy.

    ▶ 004. HASTY PREPARATION.

Not long into the Outsiders’ stay at the castle, a scouting report comes back with alarming news: the kaiju is on the move and seems to have more humans under its control, preparing to launch a counterattack on the castle and the people within. The generals, Gwen leading the charge, are quick to gather their weapons and supplies and start to consider a way of fighting back before the worst happens: the castle is laid siege.

Everyone in the castle is suddenly part of a whirlwind of motion, all trying to plan the counterattack and how to deal with the kaiju before it’s too late. Gwen is more than willing to listen to what the Outsiders have to say as spokespeople for LILITH, and due to their experience in dealing with kaiju in the past; she’s keen to know what they’ve tried, what worked, and what didn’t work.

The next few days have the castle in preparation mode. Weapons are checked, books on tactics and histories are revised to see for any weaknesses that might have been missed, and Outsiders are encouraged to do whatever they can to help, just as they have been before.

It’s as hard to get Gwen and her generals alone as it was before, but there’s a general feeling of finality around the keep; this could be it. She does make an announcement a day before the march:

"My men and I have discovered what may be causing the strange... Affliction your friends are suffering from, dear soldiers of LILITH. The kaiju seems to have the power to influence emotion, and memory along with it. A previous attack left a relic in the beast, which has healing properties: it is this that will cure your friends. We must defeat the monster and bring this relic home, with all swiftness."

Killing this kaiju might be the only way to free the Outsiders from its influence.

This might be the final push to get rid of the kaiju forever.

Due to the nature of the final prompt, the Kaiju RNG will be posted in a few days to allow for time for Outsiders to gather clues and plan a counterattack against the kaiju.

The clues Outsiders receive (both AU and non-AU options) will be vital for charting a course for tackling this kaiju, so please add your suggestions (and ICly +1 other people's) before the 10th at the latest. We strongly encourage players to coordinate their clues together ICly to come up with solutions!

The planned attack will be based on character suggestions using this comment.

All comments in this event count for 2 points towards October AC. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask them below.

    ▶ 001. WINNER'S CIRCLE.

The return to Neo Tokyo is a quieter affair than usual, but that doesn’t mean that LILITH isn’t proud of her angels. After dispatching them to deal with smuggling rings and bringing in their latest set of Outsiders, there’s a little celebration in the cafeteria; sushi, yakiniku, tempura and other various seasonal foods are on offer, just… Don’t ask where the meat comes from.

The celebrations of the victories in Mexico are not to be ignored, however, and the traditional celebrations of the winning outsiders is business as usual:

    GOOD JOB:
    SOBA & R.A.P.H (K.O.)
    JUSTISH (600) & GODDESS OF DEATH (600)

And, as might be becoming familiar to the Outsiders, the celebration of the victors comes with its own impact on the cityscape of Neo Tokyo.

The more fashionable of folk might notice a new trend flooding the market, especially popular with teenage girls who lean towards the more lolita fashion. The trend is a simple gothic one, nicknamed zen lolita, with black on black, thick earrings and zori shoes with sharp designs that all seem to call back to traditional Buddhist monk style. The sparks of colour in this style come from white and silver accessories - finger and nose rings, dangling chains with small, animal charms. While much of the style can be found in thrift stores and downloaded through the style chips, a significant amount of it can only be bought in high end, expensive boutiques.

Meanwhile, in the arcades of Neo Tokyo, a new game has become popular. Players enter a virtual simulation room and can use dual virtual swords to slash at incoming targets while listening to music. Targets can take on the shape of alien spaceships, asteroids, and even space robots. To win, you have to fight to the beat with certain songs having greater difficulty. Hardcore players can also purchase upgrades for their virtual swords to trigger special effects. The upgrades are all named after famous swords with some of the most impressive ones being Excalibur and Arondite.

Another emerging hit teen trend is a brand-new pizza from one of the bigger chains in Neo Tokyo. Painting their windows with reds and greens, little cartoon turtles and party balloons and celebrations, with mascots that are being sold as keyrings and plushies alongside the food. The main attraction is the new dish on offer: a Mutant Turtle Pizza! It’s a fairly simple dish, designed as a calzone (you can customise some of your fillings!) with a turtle shell crust, wrapped in paper matching their cute mascot design. If you come in cosplay, you get 10% off!

Those in Redemption might notice something… Odd going on outside room 006. In the weeks after the return from Mexico, deliveries have been made almost around the clock, the weary drivers dropping off box after box and bouquet after bouquet. It seems as if word of a certain someone’s hard work in fighting the kaiju has been heard, and they want to show their affection. Various bouquets of sunflowers, roses, tulips, daises and orchids can be found littering the floor, in various shades of blues, purples, yellows and white. At least it smells wonderful.

▶ 002. LOST IN TRANSLATION (TEXT MINGLE.)

Auto-translation software allows everyone in the world to communicate with each other, regardless of where they are from or what language they might speak. Everyone has it automatically installed and for the most part, this allows for seamless and instant translation no matter who they are talking to.

One day, everyone will receive a system message that consists of broken characters, code, and gibberish. After that, they will find that they have some trouble communicating with others. For some people, it might just be a few words not translating correctly, but for others, the miscommunication is more extreme.

The translation software might completely fail, resulting in Outsiders not being able to understand each other at all. They will have to rely on vintage translation services or body language Synthia will issue an explanation:

"We all know the results of modern projects. We are now solving the problem. Thank you very much."

"It seems instead of translating to multiple languages, she translated through multiple languages. Sorry. There is currently a problem with the translation software. We contacted support and they're working on it."

For the next few days, everyone will have to make do with broken or incorrect translations when speaking to each other. Even characters from the same world and country might find themselves suddenly speaking a completely different language. This might result in people saying the opposite of what they mean or the things they say might end up translated through multiple languages before the final result. They might even accidentally confess a secret that they did not mean to say. Eventually, a patch will be issued and things will resume as usual. This effects both text messaging and normal speaking.

    ▶ 003. CAULDRONS & KAIJU.

It seems as though September is for fun, and with it comes a rush of people in Neo Tokyo taking part in an exciting craze that seems to ebb and flow in popularity throughout the year: a class-based, live action role-playing game that is all the more exciting thanks to technology permitting light shows, downloadable costumes and guild systems. LILITH is quick to encourage the Outsiders to take part, in the interest of team-building and developing connections across the four groups on base.

The game itself is simple: organise yourself into a ‘party’, download your costumes and class features (such as light shows for magic users, custom weapons for your melee and ranged) and various upgrades to transform your features into different ‘races’ - your bunny and cat people, lizardfolk, and so forth. Once your party is together, you travel through a scavenger-hunt style series of games, puzzles, PvP and PvE fights to get to the final ‘dungeon’ - raid a dragon lair and get some gold and various other prizes. Try to create a balanced team of tank, magic user, support and damage dealer!

LILITH is more than happy to help set up the Outsiders with what gear they need, and makes the following recommendations for the ‘style’ of play for each team - and they recommend a mixture of all four for the best “party-comp”:
BRIMSTONE are the tanks. Ranging from dedicated, focused Paladin-style warriors using various different weaponry to Barbarians who use their rage for offensive purposes, they’re encouraged to don armour, get their HP buffed and lead their party into their quest. They can take more damage than the rest of their party and have special abilities to get monsters to focus on them.

EVERLIGHT find themselves as physical based damage dealers. This could be archery, swords, knives or their bare fists to hit for as much power as they can muster. They’re encouraged to do what they can to bash their enemies to pieces, and are more adept at 1:1 combat than groups. Their skills focus more on high damage ceilings for those who get to grips quickly and critical hits.

REDEMPTION are the support. This can range from straight-up HP healing skills or using buffs and debuffs to make it easier for the tanks (and those unruly DPS!) to survive whatever fight comes up ahead. Regen or shields, they could also be the Healer-DPS and heal by killing the enemy before it kills their party - with a little bit of poison and strength sapping magic, they’re nothing to scoff at.

REVELATION get to enjoy the fascinating and wonderful world of magic users. This could be using a wand, a book, or sheer natural talent to cast a variety of spells to get rid of the enemy as swiftly as possible. Elemental magic (your fire, ice, earth, lightning, etc) mixes with staggering areas of effect skills to try and make quick work of any threat that might lie ahead. Mages are far more useful for groups of enemies than single target, but are still devastating.
The actual ‘roleplay’ part of the event takes place with a series of different ventures for Outsiders to get themselves busy with across Neo Tokyo:
  • Various puzzles and riddles to crack between different markers on their maps.
  • Traps to trip players up and make them question everything.
  • Mysteries that need to be solved before they can move on to the next location.
  • Nature itself fighting back against the questing parties.
  • There are various fun elements uploaded onto their implants to make the game more engaging as well, as if they were playing in the simulation room: a HP tracker, item lists, spells and mana, party group chats and various other features. This will help when one of your party gets poisoned and loses -1HP per step they take… Uh oh! Feel free to have fun with whatever your imagination can come up with.

At the end of the trail is the dragon’s lair, where they’ll face various lair-based obstacles: smoke and fog, 'toxic' fumes and clouds, dragon breath (of various elemental flavours), terrain difficult to walk through, etc. All of this is created via a holographic simulation, of course, but it feels very real! Winning parties will win a treasure chest of “gold”... It’s chocolate, and therefore fake, but you get a really cool certificate and a place on the leaderboard for how fast you beat the dragon!

    2. LOST IN TRANSLATION: LILITH's auto translation gets a bug and Outsiders must communicate by other means until it is fixed. Some effects will cause people to speak in a language they don't know or even confess a secret they did not mean to say.

    3. CAULDRONS & KAIJU: A dungeon & dragons style simulation game! Outsiders must build a team and work together through various puzzles to reach the dragon's lair, slay it and steal the (chocolate) gold.
